I’m sick of pretending, what does RSVP stand for?

I’ve never seen someone hate his mother the way this colleague of mine does. He told me that, when she left his father, she got into a new relationship with a man who didn’t want her raising another man’s child. She chose the relationship and left him behind with his grandmother when he was only five years old. Growing up, he suffered a lot of abuse and neglect while his mother barely stayed in contact. Even when she visited, she treated him like just another child in the house instead of her son. Now she’s old, sick, and alone. Her husband passed away, one of her children is serving a life sentence, and the other is somewhere in Johannesburg living their best life and not checking on her. My colleague's wife wants to help by taking her in and hiring someone to care for her, but he wants absolutely nothing to do with it. The wounds from childhood clearly never healed.

Whether she has her own money or not, a man’s role is to provide.
