@jsoneaday @jarredsumner It is hard to say - can't compare performance against a hypothetical. Switching Node to Hermes requires shimming the v8 API, which I haven't looked into.

Announcing Hermes-node Hermes can now run as a standalone CLI with Node.js-compatible APIs - no C++ embedding required. Technically, hermes-node is a Node.js API compatibility layer for Hermes. It ports Node's native bindings (fs, net, http, child_process, etc.) to Node-API and reuses Node's original lib/*.js files, allowing standard Node.js programs to run on Hermes instead of V8. It vendors libuv, c-ares, llhttp, Ada, simdutf, etc to provide the same networking and I/O stack as Node, and runs as a standalone CLI binary. In this demo: - REPL with tab completion - TypeScript HTTP server using http, fs, and path - Type annotations stripped natively by the parser — no transpiler, not even a built-in one. This is still a work in progress, though surprisingly functional. More Node modules coming, source will be published soon.

@tmikov @jarredsumner You said you’re “adding node modules to hermes”. So I’m asking any perf penalty in doing that as opposed to switching chrome to hermes

@tmikov @jarredsumner I was just asking if there is a performance penalty to doing it with modules instead of swapping out chrome for hermes

My goal wasn't to drop-in replace v8 in Node, so I went in the opposite direction. I am porting and partially re-implementing Node C++ bindings. So, instead of putting Hermes in Node, I am adding Node modules to Hermes, so to speak. This gives me better control over the architecture and more "ownership" over the result. I am pretty excited about adding sound typing to the Node modules and compiling them natively. End result is potentially almost everything written in typed JS, with very little C++.

First time using PGLite as an in-memory Postgres DB for testing purposes. Very, very nice, especially with @DrizzleORM as an ORM.

I haven't posted a lot about Hermes recently, but that's because I have been working hard. A couple of sizable new things coming soon.

How many Dads would be willing to do the same thing for their kids? I pray he knows freedom again 🙏 This is John Eisenman. He lost his daughter to sexual trafficking—she was sold for $1,000 in Seattle, Washington. Like any father would, John took matters into his own hands. He researched, investigated, and uncovered the truth behind her abduction. He RESCUED her himself. The person who sold her was her 19-year-old boyfriend. In November 2020, John confronted him, abducted him, and ultimately killed him. Authorities later found the boyfriend’s body in October 2021, abandoned in the trunk of a car. Now, John sits in jail, but he knows his daughter is safe and growing up. After living 60 years of his life, I believe he rests easy. Live your life fully, and do everything in your power to give your children the same chance, no matter the sacrifice. I’ll be sending John some commissary money, hoping he one day experiences freedom alongside his daughter.

They are murdering, raping, and eating children. 🤮 They belong to a literal satanic cult that goes back thousands of years. This much is clear now. Knowing this, what are we doing here? What is it going to take to actually wake everyone else up? We need arrests.

I don’t believe AI will take experienced developer jobs However I think there is now no reason to use abstraction frameworks like @reactnative or @FlutterDev If you have experience with several languages that’s enough for AI to help you build native

Male students are more tolerant of political rivals than female students are of political allies. From the article: Men are over 3.5x more likely than women to be “perfectly tolerant” of opposing views, meaning they would definitely allow any campus speaker.
