Cirl-rich March @BirdwatchExtra . Avery rules out caticide, @LucyMcRobert1 on saving vagrants. @bonxie likes the new bins by the RSPB(conservationists turned lottery runners). Lacklustre snaps that won Photo of the Year fail to excite, sadly! Kit Day must be spinning in his hide

Finally sharing some photos from the stunning Cesar region of Colombia from earlier this year with my friend Pete Shen and our guide Jose Luis Ropero. The latest AviList update now recognises Perija Parakeet as a distinct species separate from Painted Parakeet.

@GibsonTomgibo And the Cuckoo-roller looks like a bird designed by Picasso. Madagascar has some strange birds.

Just when I'm sure I can identify when a bird is real and when it's AI I see a picture of something as ridiculously colourful as the Common Sunbird-Asity.

Plains-wanderer (female) - another single species family bird from a recent trip to Australia. Feather pattern reminiscent of South American Seedsnipes. Flight reminiscent of a Common Sandpiper. An added bonus in the locality is an awesome pie shop in nearby Deniliquin.

Not a picture I'm going to win any awards for, but taken at an ISO of 25,600 at 5:50 am in a dark wooded area by a stream. I could barely see the bird! It's amazing what noise reduction software can achieve. Spotted Elachura, a single species family bird from AR, India.

@Hazelaa @GibsonTomgibo It is … but you can buy it in spray form to treat your own clothing. Last for up to 6 weeks per treatment.

I've barely been outside since Saturday, felt an itch on the inside of my knee through my work trousers all day today. I spray my walk trousers before trips, bed sheets were cleaned yesteday, I've showered a short while ago, and still I find a tick on the inside of my knee 🤬🤬

@Hazelaa My main pair of walking trousers are made of one of those fancy fast drying polymer fabrics, so I use Deet-free spray on them otherwise they would melt! The spray is certainly effective on European mosquitos and supposed to be effective for ticks too.

@WriterHannahBT I decided to copy your example, Hannah, and walked around Warren Farm LNR in just a pair of speedos today. Yellowhammer have never sounded so fresh and scratchy, but my communion with these enchanting songsters felt astonishingly intimate.

First bird of my day: Song thrush, his song wolf whistling down the length of the hedgerow that’s frothing with hawthorn, fringed by cow parsley. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

@girasole_l Copper pheasant is definitely possible there. I saw a pair in 2019. There are also Japanese Flying Squirrels which are interesting too. Think there are bears as well … many walkers in the woodland carry bells so they don’t surprise them. Beautiful place.

Just a few more snaps from Tokyo. ♥️ I’ve arrived in Karuizawa (Nagano prefecture) today. I have two nights to myself to relax and squeeze in some birding. Expect some wildlife shots soon! 😁

@john_cantelo I’ll give it a listen as I see it’s available on Audible. Other than Kingbird Highway I’ve been a little disappointed with big year books.

@GibsonTomgibo I have a Pulsar XQ38 you can try out for a while to see if it works for you. My experience is that they are very effective where the heat differential is greatest. To be honest it’s not really my thing and I’m paranoid about taking it overseas in case I get arrested.

Does anyone on here have any experience with thermal imagers and advice on good brands, what sort of cost is needed for good quality, usability ect? I'm considering purchasing one for birding and mammal watching.
