This has spilled over into a 2nd day. He insists that anyone can succeed if they try hard enough, & those unsuccessful aren't trying hard enough. Systemic inequalities be damned. I want off this ride, but sunk-cost fallacy & I can't give him the satisfaction of thinking he won.

I just spent 2 hours arguing with someone in the Fox News comments about minimum wage, cost of living, affordability, capitalism, etc. He was very much a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" type and a "climb the ladder and pull it up behind you" type. I did not have a good time.
