Opponent stared in disbelief at this move and simply allowed his time to run out. Maybe my most Kasparov-esque move, in a "career" spanning 18 years of mediocre tournament results. Very happy with having seen the idea of b6! from afar. Can you see what white is threatening? Ghita, V (2027) - Opponent (1956) 1-0 @ ROU U2200 Ch.

Is there any king's move that enables White to promote? 🤔

@RoizMichael83 You go Kf2 Rxh1 e7. Then you get checked from the h-file and walk up the f-file until you take f6. Then you walk back down again to f2-e1-d2 Then you walk up to d6 and interfere on Rh6+ with Nf6. If Rxf6+, you walk back to d2 again and then to e1. On Nf6 Rh8 Nd7+ and Nf8.

@Kasparov63 There are at most six white pawn moves left and two captures of black pieces, so this involves at least three sacrifices, all very spread apart. Impressive!

584 moves with just 8 of 32 pieces on the board! Further evidence that not only will chess never be solved, but that should such miraculous technology ever appear, the results will be practically meaningless for human players. An impressive feat nonetheless.

It's the following position: White wins in 584 moves. The winning move is unique. Interestingly, Stockfish 18 finds the correct move, but only gives +0.7

I once kissed myself in the mirror of an elevator after drawing a GM. Today, that was today.

@lethalchess Good catch! Actually, White wins with a knight promotion instead, threatening Nf6#!

@ChessGainz Wow. There was no time trouble. Assaubayeva spent 7 minutes on Rxe8. Makes me feel better about my own OTB blunders!

@ChessGainz Hard to believe this is from a real classical game between two GM-strength players. There must have been massive time trouble, right? Though the images don’t seem to indicate so (I don’t know if the times in the image are from the end of the game or when the moves were played)
