@meredithdclark @emilymbender I offer honoraria when I host because I want talking to be worth folk's time and hear people like @meredithdclark on the expectation of free labor. But, I also want to be heard. To keep my job (am pre-tenure), I need to be invited more than I need $. That's not true for everyone.

@emilymbender Industries requesting our expertise can afford to pay us. Preparing such talks takes time and energy that could be spent elsewhere. Be prepared to name your rate. +

@emilymbender I didn't expect to get paid but did expect travel support when it was an on-site talk (not a Zoom). Real value for me was in the conversations around the talk and meetings during the visit, not in cash or "exposure". Same expectations I have for campus visits.

@libbyh As I understand, Paperpile doesn't have an API (forum.paperpile.com/t/public-devel… ) so I don't think this is possible.

@dhillon_p Right? Seems like there should be an automatic way in Overleaf to generate these diff files since journals request them. Asked @anmolpanda_ for help. We’ll see what we figure out.

@libbyh I haven't tried that, but I typically look at the "History" of the edits from the top menu. I'm sure there are better ways, e.g., maybe this? overleaf.com/learn/latex/Ar…

@dhillon_p Yeah, that works on the body of the paper, but if the .bib file changes, those aren't marked. I saw a couple ways to get the .bbl files, but tex.stackexchange.com/questions/1720… was the only thing I found and it didn't work either.

@meredithdclark @NespressoUSA Third machine was a charm for me. They kept sending me free ones until I got one that worked, and it really is lovely. Sorry about your papers!

Hi @NespressoUSA: I just attempted to clean & use my brand-new Vertuo. Although the water tank is properly aligned, nearly a third of the water from it leaked out onto the shelf where it's stored, ruining papers I had below. Is there any reason I should keep this machine?

@ajmillion Agreed. I have enough data now to make realistic estimates for things like "how long does it take to write a grant proposal" and "how many meetings can I handle in a week". Seems like enough and I don't need to keep "track time" on my to do list.

@KishonnaGray OMG, I love "zero build". I cannot handle all the things at the same time. Also love that they unvaulted the port-a-fort. I'll take protection-for-olds, no problem.

Games should just have multiple options. Like fortnite adding a "no build" option bc us elders in gaming couldn't figure it out lol

@dutchbikemom How much gear are you thinking? What about a deep, detachable bucket instead of panniers on your long tail? Less drag and hassle than a trailer. It would have to be pretty wide for golf bag, but you could fit a lot of pool stuff.

I've moved from a bakfiets to a long-tail for commuting, but miss the ability to throw golf and pool stuff in my bucket. Anyone have a bike trailer they like for gear? Ease of removal would be a huge factor. Thanks #biketwitter !
