ABOUT THE BOOK
The Book of Enoch, an ancient Jewish text, is traditionally attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah, though its actual authorship remains unknown. Enoch is depicted as a righteous man entrusted by God with profound visions and revelations about divine secrets, angelic interactions, and prophecies concerning judgment.
Originating during the Second Temple period (circa 530 BCE to 70 CE), the book was highly influential among early Jewish communities but is not included in most Jewish or Christian biblical canons, except within the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and Eritrean Orthodox Church.
The book fell into obscurity in Western Christianity until the late 18th century when James Bruce brought back an Ethiopian version to Europe, sparking renewed interest among scholars. Its influence is evident in various Jewish and Christian writings, particularly through its detailed descriptions of angelology, demonology, and messianism.
The book is organized into five sections: The Watchers, The Parables, The Book of Noah, The Kingdom of Heaven, and The Epistle of Enoch.
