"I don't need religion or god to give my life meaning... because time gives it meaning" is one of the greatest lines of dialogue ever written. Run Carrie Coon her Emmy now. #TheWhiteLotus

“…And I’m just happy to be at the table.” And I’ll be happy when Carrie Coon walks on stage in September to collect her (long overdue) Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The White Lotus. A stunning monologue that reaffirmed her status as the queen of HBO.

Apart from security concerns and BJP’s policy of freezing out Pakistan due to genuine terror-related issues, this is one of the reasons they don’t want the Indian team in a stadium like the Gaddaffi. It would show Pakistanis in a normal human light. Lahoris would embrace Indians with great love and in the age of social media such images reaching Indians is simply too dangerous for the Hindutva machinery.
اسد@zarathustra_3

I’m pretty sure that if India had played in Lahore Lahoris would’ve given them such a wholesome reception. Totally in contrast to that bigoted and xenophobic crowd at Ahmedabad.

A history student from DU should also know that Aurangzeb wasn’t the only medieval emperor who used torture against his opponents. A history student from DU should also clearly recognise the reciprocal relationship between politicised historiography & Hindu nationalism.

Never quite liked this defense of Urdu against Hindutva. So if Urdu wasn’t derived from Sanskrit, would it be okay to go after it? What if it was actually a “Muslim language”? Why does it need to justify its existence as a product of multi-cultural interactions? Urdu bodies and institutions are suffering today in a move to ostensibly hurt Muslims. Then how does this argument help.
Vikram Chandra@typingvanara

This anti-Urdu rhetoric is so freaking dumb. 75% of Urdu words are derived from Prakrit and Sanskrit. 99% of its verbs are from Prakrit and Sanskrit. Its grammar is from Khariboli, the local language spoken by common people in the Delhi region. It descends from Shauraseni Prakrit and through that from Sanskrit. It's as Indo-Aryan and Indian as any other northern Indian language. So freaking dumb.
