@TheCinesthetic This scene and the oxygen crisis in this movie really bothered me. The amount of open space in the ship (especially around the payload) was massive. They could have closed off a lot of areas and kept to one small area and just kept the oxygen pumping in there and been fine.

@james_xond As much as your friends and family love you they cannot help you. If they could they would have already. Accept that the best thinking your immediate support circle could provide brought you to where you are now. Find strangers who have been where you are and listen to them.

@SynCityyTV It’s the same story told over until everyone dies or converts and then it starts again. It takes about 60 years from start to finish. Those that convert at the end of one cycle become the monsters in the next. Ethan is telling the story, and Julie can skip around.

*Important to note* Boyd is the only person to witness the Night Creatures ripping apart and killing someone (Tian-Chen). Everyone else in the town has only seen the aftermath. In that context, Boyd opting for mass suicide is not surprising. #FROM #FROMily

This scene has made me come up with a new theory. Martin was the Man in Yellow that entire time, just screwing with Boyd’s head…effectively making him spread panic and unrest. He has the ability to kill them all, but would rather play games with them? #FROMily

@inababi @mycoliza 1000% accurate. The last startup I worked for hired Amazon leader thinking it would be a reputational benefit, 15% of the engineers left, 50% of the managers left, then they fired the Amazon leader when they realized his “plans”’would cost more than two years of revenue.

@mycoliza Growth startups operating like this in OC. Hint: they have Amazon leadership draining resources like they’re still at Amazon. 😂 don’t hire ex-Amazon managers if you don’t want to lose your business

neural oscillator of uncertain significance
this is why the first step in organizational dysfunction is having multiple levels of managers
Ryan Peterman@ryanlpeterman

ex-Amazon VP (@EthanEvansVP): "One of the hardest things for people to understand is I've identified a legitimate weakness in my boss. I go to my skip. Why doesn't he do something? Well, if you come to me with a weakness in one of my employees, there is subconsciously this process that goes on that says, I have two choices. I can believe that you're overly sensitive and high maintenance. In which case, I don't really have a problem. You are the problem. And you know, you're two levels down for me. So if you quit, well, the manager has to do the backfill. And I can tell the manager, you know, Ryan was here. He said this, that and the other. Maybe you can work with him. And that's exactly what you don't want is me ratting you out. But I can make it my manager's problem. On the other hand, if I agree with you and I'm like, you know what, this manager I have really isn't that good. Now I have three problems. This is really bad for me. One, I have to decide what to do with my manager. Maybe I have to manage them out. Two, if I do manage them out, I have to hire and train somebody else. And three, while they're gone, I have to do all their work myself. So you can see why, even if it's subconscious, I have a lot of reasons not to listen "

@royalpratt It smells like something is missing from this story. I wouldn’t be surprised if more details came out that muddied the waters a bit.

@Stumpjumper88 @JesseTinsley Either (1) someone new comes in and can’t separate the IC’s who know what they are doing from those who don’t, so they bring in watchmen to slow everyone down, or (2) empire building on behalf of the VP/SVP level.

@JesseTinsley In your experience, how/why did they all get hired to begin with? Is HR a big part of the problem? I half jokingly call it HR: The Rise of the Evil Empire. To me, over the last 20 years their reach and power grab have been extremely detrimental.

Every company we buy reminds me of the same thing: Half the middle managers add almost zero value. They gatekeep. Slow things down. Kill innovation. Fill calendars with meetings about meetings. The wild part? When they step out of the way the company often performs better and moves faster. If you want the truth about who’s holding your business back don’t ask the execs... Ask the individual contributors. They know.

@queenofthesou1 48 days matters more than three years. A lot more. I think I had around that much time when I could finally eat alone in public without needing to numb myself. It was a brutal experience.

I just deleted my post about how many sober days I had under my belt. The last time I did that, some woman said, "Come back when you've done 3 years." I shouldn't let people like that bother me, but it did hurt my feelings a bit. So, yeah. For anyone who cares, it's 48 days.

@DevLeaderCa It’s a mixed bag. I like that it makes engineers more responsible for their own stuff, but I hate putting them on on-call rotations without a comp adjustment.
