Watching the Tour de France from Montmartre today was incredible. Every single person got cheered - the riders, the support crews, even the police and utility workers. The whole city came together for this. Huge congrats to Wout and Pogačar, but honestly chapeau to everyone who made it happen 🚴♂️

Mark Cuban just described the largest wealth transfer of the AI era.
Almost nobody understood what he said.
Cuban: “There are 33 million companies in this country. Aren’t going to have AI budgets. Aren’t going to have AI experts.”
Not tech startups.
The shoe store. The regional trucking outfit. The accounting firm with 12 employees.
The businesses that actually run the physical economy.
They know AI is coming. They have no idea what to do with it.
Cuban: “You’ve got the head of Microsoft saying software is dead because everything’s going to be customized to your unique utilization.”
Software is dead.
The SaaS era ran on one rule. Build a generic product. Force millions of companies to bend their workflows around it. Charge rent forever.
AI ends the contract.
The business stops bending to the software. The intelligence bends to the business.
But customized by whom.
The third-generation manufacturer cannot tell Claude from Gemini. The county hospital is staring at a reactor asking where the light switch is.
Cuban: “Who’s going to do it for them?”
That question is worth more than the frontier models themselves.
Hundreds of billions are being burned to build the foundation. The smartest engineers alive are locked in a bloodbath over who owns the base layer.
Let them fight.
Let them burn the capital. Let them drive the cost of raw intelligence toward zero.
Because the wealth does not collect where the brain is built.
It collects where the brain meets the business.
Every ambitious kid in college right now thinks survival means a seat at OpenAI or Anthropic.
Cuban is staring at the other 99 percent of the economy.
Learn the models. Then learn the messy, unglamorous reality of how a 50-person company actually operates.
Walk through the door. Understand their problems. Wire the intelligence directly into their revenue.
That is not a job title. That is an entire economic class being born.
You do not need to build the brain. You need to build the nervous system.
The biggest winners of the electricity era were not the engineers who built the generators. They were the ones who walked into dark factories and showed the owners where to plug in.
33 million companies are standing in the dark right now.
Silicon Valley is racing to build the god. The fortunes will belong to whoever teaches him a trade.

Elon Musk: At this point, education is mostly a social experience. You don’t actually need school to learn anymore. With AI, you can learn just as much—or more—on your phone at home. School is becoming less about knowledge and more about being around people your own age.
People should go to school today mainly for the social side of it. The learning itself? AI can already do that better. Conventional schooling could be vastly improved, and individualized AI teachers will outperform the one-size-fits-all classroom.
Education doesn’t need to happen in a building anymore. You could learn everything at home on your phone. Kids go to school to hang out, build social skills, and experience a coming-of-age—not because it’s the most effective way to learn.
School today functions as a social filter, not a learning engine. AI handles the learning better. Humans still go to school for friendships, relationships, leadership, confidence, and real-world social development.

@svpino It feels a lot like Marx’s alienation. Developers used to take pride in shaping every line of code, but with AI doing the heavy lifting, many are left detached from the process. The craft turns into supervision, and that spark of ownership and passion starts to fade.

I've been writing code since 1994.
I've done it in a dozen different programming languages, and 90% of the time, I haven't gotten paid for it.
I write code because I love writing code first and foremost. The pay has always been a nice byproduct.
Yes, the money is nice, but I *love* writing code.
Unfortunately, writing code with AI takes that away for me.
I appreciate that I can use these models to help me build software faster, but I don't feel any joy while doing it.
When I use AI, my passion becomes simply a job. I do it because I have to, not because I want to.
And that's a bummer.
I have to think more about this.

There's a new kind of coding I call "vibe coding", where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It's possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good. Also I just talk to Composer with SuperWhisper so I barely even touch the keyboard. I ask for the dumbest things like "decrease the padding on the sidebar by half" because I'm too lazy to find it. I "Accept All" always, I don't read the diffs anymore. When I get error messages I just copy paste them in with no comment, usually that fixes it. The code grows beyond my usual comprehension, I'd have to really read through it for a while. Sometimes the LLMs can't fix a bug so I just work around it or ask for random changes until it goes away. It's not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, but still quite amusing. I'm building a project or webapp, but it's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works.

How Zignotch is making community building actually work. Their analytics are next level

The smartest event organizers already know - community > transactions. The rest will figure it out or fade out

ChatGPT/Claude might be the best educational tool ever invented, but people still crave human interactions.
The human touch can't be replaced.
I had 120 students in my live class today. The excitement and energy in that virtual room can't be replicated with a model.
There's no better way to learn than by surrounding yourself with other students and having the ability to interact with your professor.

@vismaleaseabike You represent outdated cycling. Using boring and sleazy tactics to try to kill its spirit. Even if luck somehow plays a role, I believe you will never win another Tour. Seeing how you’ve ruined @WoutvanAert with the same mentality makes me sad. Go @TamauPogi go Remko.
