the acceptance that you might do life alone is not defeat. it is what happens when someone has enough self respect to stop pretending that almost right is close enough. the love you want feels unrealistic because you have met enough versions of almost to know the difference between settling and arriving and you refuse to call settling a happy ending. that refusal will cost you in the short term in the form of loneliness and waiting and the quiet ache of not yet. but the people who accepted less to avoid that feeling are not winning. they are just occupied. the love you described exists. it is just rare and it requires you to be exactly the kind of person who would rather wait than accept a convincing substitute and somehow that person is always the last to find it and the first to deserve it.
