Start with one thing at a time. Many people start with an increase goal for daily steps. Once you feel comfortable with your new daily target, look at other ways you can get healthy: calories/day, work outs, etc..

Two things really changed everything for me. 1. Tracking calories, a hateful task but effective and 2. weight training.
The game changer was weight lifting even small amounts. Gaining muscle helps burn fat.
