Old Cove

I picked up this empty autograph book yesterday. Dated from 1923, the pages of this little black book has no signatures other than an inscription from a Mother to her son.

I wrote a piece about my shop Old Coves for The Deal Despatch.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of running into ⁦@rallen78⁩ in ⁦Deal who was touring the town’s fleshpots in a homage to David Seabrook’s cult novella All The Devils Are Here. ‘Where was ⁦@IanCallaway352⁩ ‘ we briefly wondered over a couple of large G&Ts.

@rallen78 @IanCallaway352 We were in The Rose if you remember. Although I have a feeling Callaway used to turn out for the darts team at The Alma before he joined The Drum Major’s skittle league.

@oldcoves @IanCallaway352 Yes was appending to see you, me and the ladies were in the bar of the Royal Hotel saying how fortuitous it was. Sad about Callaway and he intrigued them but Hopeully the Ship Inn shall welcome us again soon #bitterlemon

This rare 1950s drinks cart by Gaetano Pizzi is such an eccentric piece of Italian design. I can’t decide whether I should wheel it, walk it or drink it. What would do?

I sometimes wonder where Norman is now. Probably wintering with his mother in Guildford. A cat, rain, Vim under the sink, and both bars on. But old now, old. There can be no true beauty without decay.
