Assume for a moment you're right — though I firmly believe you're not. What message does that send to our future generations? That our own kids aren't good enough for IT and healthcare? These are critical roles for New Zealand's long-term success. How wise is it to import that workforce, whether temporary or permanent? Our children miss out on those opportunities. We have proven time and again that Kiwis can lead the world in these fields. I see this as a convenient narrative, not one grounded in reality.

I’m an Aucklander grinding it out in this job market right now. Unemployment sits at 5.4% nationally — highest since 2015 — and it’s worse here in Auckland. Per capita GDP has been flat or falling for years. The China FTA delivered big export numbers but zero real lift in living standards for ordinary Kiwis. Now the India FTA is being signed this week with new dedicated Indian work visas — while locals like me can’t even get an interview for basic roles. I’ve seen these so-called “skilled” visas used for supermarket and gas station jobs that regular Kiwis are applying for and getting knocked back on. Something is seriously wrong here. Society has changed dramatically, and this level of change was never something the country agreed to. Screaming “racism” every time someone raises these legitimate economic concerns is a lazy, dishonest deflection. I’m worried about the future for my son and for all our kids. We cannot keep using migration as a GDP bandaid while Auckland strains and Kiwis get sidelined. Demand full transparency on the exact visa rules, labour market impact modelling, and infrastructure assessment before any ratification. Prioritise Kiwis first: invest in local training, and deliver real productivity growth. #NZIndiaFTA @winstonpeters @nzfirst @chrisluxonmp @nznational @ToddMcClayMP @henrycooke @EricaStanfordMP @coughlthom

Water cooperation is not only mutually beneficial for India and Pakistan, but essential. Restoring the Indus Waters Treaty could be a powerful foundation for rebuilding trust. "India will bring unmatched skills and talent in sectors like IT and healthcare." I strongly disagree. Fraud is rampant in those sectors. Kiwis already possess world-leading skills. We do not need Indians arriving with fake qualifications. We can achieve far more by backing our own people. Look at Team New Zealand and Rocket Lab — shining examples of Kiwi ingenuity, hard work, and genuine excellence. Not fake degrees and dodgy dealings.

@xCameronAce The FTA with China gave us more jobs in the export sector. I know of growers bringing on more people to export exotic fruit to China. But the FTA with India only floods NZ with thousands of fraudulent degree holders. Mate you have my sympathy.

@xCameronAce We need to look at the typed of jobs these Indians snatch vs the types of jobs New Zealanders will do Do New Zealanders want to work as cleaners , courier drivers , checkout operators or service station attendants for example? If answer is yes then those jobs are being stolen
