@BillWiIdin Stagnating wages was the breaking point that we passed. An entire generation demanding higher pay for less work is the very symptom of their leverage being utilized. If unemployment and general social decay appear more attractive than entry level job conditions, we have a problem

@pattern4 Fair point. Wages did stagnate. Trust broke. But “deliver for me or I quit” only works if you’re delivering value first. Capitalism pays output, not demands. Pay dues, create leverage, then rewrite terms.

Gen Z entering the corporate workforce with zero work ethic is going to collapse the economy. They expect a $90k salary, full remote flexibility, and four weeks of PTO for an entry-level job. The moment a manager gives them constructive feedback, they call it a "toxic workplace" and quit. You actually have to pay your dues and work hard before you start demanding executive-level perks. The entitlement is completely out of control and older generations are sick of dealing with it.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Anthropic IPO also has been kneecapped. If Anthropic can not offer the powerful models to rest of the world, this reduces their global market share by 75%. Is it then still a 1T USD market cap company??? Open source will already near Opus/Sonnet and will cross that tier soon...... While I duely respect safety concerns - this is very broad and is akin to throwing baby out with bathwater....the world is going to be split by model access.

@signulll @ThinkFinance999 Yeah, the floor will soon belong to local open source models from China. The human brain needs 20 Watts to run, so AGI on a smartphone battery is completely physically feasible.

contrary to the default reaction on this little website, this is absolutely incredible news for anthropic. i mean obviously yes, the operational disruption is real. but public & world perception wise, this could not be a bigger home run. could be a grand slam type situation. the fucking united states govt just looked at their model & effectively said.. yeah this shit is too powerful. you simply cannot buy that kind of aura. it elevates every other product by the company & it instantly reframes anthropic’s work as strategically significant, nationally relevant, & qualitatively different from the rest of the field. there is not a single institution on the planet that can buy or orchestrate this type of significance. absolutely ridiculous.

@wholemars @PappusGaming Yes but the new risk factor all US AI companies face to completely lose their business immediately based on somewhat arbitrary gov criteria just makes other nations a lot more attractive bases to develop AI.

How does something like this not torpedo the AI intelligence explosion bull case? USG establishing precedent that access to anything as smart as Fable 5 (which is not RSI and nowhere near AGI) will be banned. Even if Ant could make the model accessible to US nationals, how will any customer ensure compliance seeing as not all employees of US enterprises are US nationals… So we have a situation where the labs need to spend increasing amounts of capex to build more powerful models, but are restricted from monetising them. I do not think the intelligence levels of opus 4.8 and gpt 5.5 are enough to justify anywhere close to the amount of AI capex being spent, let alone projected to be spent…

@CamiloBAcosta @kunchenguid Before today, I might have agreed, but this extreme global shutdown is a textbook example of why a government should not be in charge. Superintelligence is not a nuke - it can be used for good. Everyone having one run locally seems the best civilizational resilience strategy now.

this is not a good sign.. the US government is making two mistakes here: 1. using "foreign national" as the criteria to gate the model is just not very smart. it's clearly not enforceable in practice and would obviously lead to a wide ban. and it's also pretty useless - there are plenty of americans more hostile towards the US than foreigners.. and it's also easy to bypass by people with real malicious intent 2. based on anthropic's post, the government clearly did not collaborate with anthropic to deeply understand the vulnerability before ordering the shutdown. this feels like a panic from people who simply don't understand what's going on my prediction is the model access will recover early next week once the government get their sh*t together i would not dunk on anthropic for this shutdown here. they worked hard on this release and it's a good model. they did a lot more on safety (i'd even say too much) than others. perhaps their "model is too dangerous" narrative is backfiring but still i think this shutdown is saying more about the government than anthropic

For anyone wondering what this means: - Anthropic (and potentially future OpenAI, Google, xAI) models that cost billions to develop will make 0 revenue outside the US - a big double digit percentage of Anthropic (and potentially OpenAI, Google, xAI) workforce can no longer work there, because they are foreigners and are not allowed to use those models So Trump just made frontier model development effectively unprofitable and tremendously slowed down Anthropic (and potentially others in the future) He's handing China the win on a gold platter. *potentially: if the same restrictions are imposed on other frontier labs and models

This should have been done a long time ago. It has been confusing as hell why you would give access to our top AI models to our adversaries and competitors that would use this to destroy American dominance with our own technology that we pay for you to have .. you use our infrastructure, our land, our taxes, our money, but yet you give other nations the same edge to dominate US tech. It's also retarded you would limit it for Americans who's back you make this off of.

@tree_enelojo @Schtal2 Every big nation on earth in the last 50 years had countless men protesting against war, and at the same time, media showing graphic warfare gore scenes have been really popular among men there. And that's fine. You can hate war and protest against it and still play CS2 daily.

@FrankRundatz @FaustinoBerlin @0xblacklight I guess many men and women will simply decide real life parenthood is not a worthwhile goal if it is possible to generate realistic simulations of family members at will at any time, little risk, and a tiny fraction of the cost. Smartphones already now drop birthrates.

this is why the labs are pushing visions of mass unemployment and replacing the white-collar workforce it's not because the models can do it it's because they have to in order to make their economic model work and to keep raising money the only way to keep raising hundreds of billions of dollars is to sell everyone on the idea you're going to demolish a massive chunk of the labor market otherwise it doesn't work
