My sweet, smart, funny, kind, loving partner of 4 plus years, Stewart Levine, passed away on Monday. He had multiple myeloma. He taught so many through his books and his teachings and he taught me how to be a humane human being til the very end. I will miss him terribly.

It was an honor to have all the educators with us at the HRS summit in San Antonio this week. I firmly believe the most important organizations necessary to sustain a democracy are its schools. Daily, your schools welcome all students who collectively will be our future citizens. Being an educator requires a heart and mind for servant leadership and a purpose greater than self. If the last full measure of a person’s career can be summed up by saying they dedicated their work to building the future for children, that is truly a life of service.
