Throughout the struggle, she frantically demanded a legal reason for her detention, while bystanders and neighbors watched the blatant abuse of power unfold in broad daylight. ​The Lorain Police Department launched an immediate internal investigation after reviewing the dashcam audio and video footage. The fallout for Kovach was swift and absolute: ​Officer Kovach was swiftly fired from the department for a severe abuse of police power, personal use of official equipment, and violating the public trust. ​ The case was turned over to a grand jury, and Kovach was subsequently indicted on criminal charges, including unlawful restraint and dereliction of duty. ​The department publicly condemned his actions, stating that his behavior did not reflect the standards of professional law enforcement.
