I am very much middle of the road, support less government but believe in the government giving help to those that need it, the truly unfortunate, veterns, handicap etc. Able bodied people should have to work or starve. US taxes should be levied fairly across the board, the very rich have too many loopholes and the poor take advantage of government handouts too much. I don't have any good solution so I chose to live away from that mess

@permexpat I would have regarded myself as a conservative when I was younger but our Tory party is totally in the gutter and has moved far right IMO which doesn’t appeal. I’m not left so…don’t really know where that leaves me. Centrist I suppose but no parties seem to cater to that now

Are Americans really ok with this?

In California at least back then it was pretty easy, they don't live well but most of the people on welfare are making money under the table (drugs and petty crime) and claiming welfare on top of it for the food and housing. Many claim fake disability to qualify Here is the most heinous example, this single white girl maybe 23-24 but looked rode hard and put away wet, lived across the parking lot from me, she had 3 kids, 2 black, 1 white (choices) and I can imagine how she earned extra money at night. One day she came crying as I came home from work that she locked herself out of her apartment with all 3 kids, it was cold and rainy out so I broke in the back door, her apartment was shockingly filthy with trash, clothes and dirty diapers piled everywhere, I nearly puked! Anyhow she later told me that she was so excited that she was pregnant with her 4th kid and that meant an extra $200 a month in welfare money.

@permexpat Oh this is an interesting take!! I thought it was genuinely hard to claim welfare in America? I guess it’s varies so much from state to state. Is welfare super generous that they’re able to live off it well?

That would be a good thing! Less division is what’s sorely needed in US, it’s just gotten so bad lately. If you want to know what Newsome has done for California just look at the budget and progress of high speed rail and the homeless population and how much money he has taken in vs spent to resolve that. Those two examples only are wild

@KrysiaJ It’s honestly insane. If they put up the California Governor Newsom they will lose again no matter who the Republicans put up. How the Dems don’t see this is beyond me. Newsome is a fruitcake though, real piece of shit

@permexpat Ha, yeah, in your line of work that’s not going to fly. I really didn’t know enough about her policies, I just hated Trump and if I was American would have voted for anyone but him. Can’t understand why Dems keeps fielding such weak candidates.

She would have been a complete disaster for the working class in America, and a pushover for China and the rest of the world. Trump is a laughing stock but at least he makes some kind of effort. Anyone from California will wreck everything, I mean look at how upside down Cali is. And she is 1000% against the oil and gas so I could never support that.

@max_gagliardi Your parents had to give consent? Hell we got swats from every teacher, Coach Tickner was the worst, his paddle had holes drilled in it for maximum aerodynamic speed and efficiency

When I was in elementary school they had a consent form where parents could sign off on letting the principal swat your kid with a wooden paddle They made us bend over a chair and grab the legs on the other side It was terrifying The Gen Alpha mind can not comprehend this
