According to Teruyoshi Nakano, he & director Koji Hashimoto were unsure how to shoot Godzilla’s 1984 reveal until the day of filming. Nakano ultimately took inspiration from the samurai film Hatamoto Taikutsu Otoko, which used a long take to build up the reveal of its hero’s face

As told on pg 78 of my book "Behind The Kaiju Curtain," 25 years ago today (4/13/01), Hiroshi Sagae took me to Toho to meet the GMK art staff: Miike, Isao, Inatsuki & Kasuga. Everyone was cool & let me poke around & take photos. It was the start of my greatest year of Godzilla.
