So a little while ago (see: 18months) I visited the Isaac Newton Telescope on the island of La Palma @INGLaPalma @IAC_Astrofisica and ended up with a bit of free time between the science field setting and the sunrise. Here are the photos we managed to take in that time:

Had a really interesting day at @prcnaoj_en NAOJ at the beautiful (and today very cold) Mitaka campus for the ALMA/45m/ASTE users meeting, looking forwards to hearing more about the wideband sensitivity upgrade tomorrow!

Happy to say that I've arrived in Hiroshima for the 'Evolution of dust and gas across cosmic time' conference!

Last night, on October 26, 2024 (HST), it snowed at the Maunakea summit area on the Island of Hawai‘i. This morning, a live camera at the #SubaruTelescope summit facility captured this photo with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT, left) and The Submillimeter Array (SMA).

So my new (second hand) camera decided to stop working at the precise moment I spotted the comet so a phone camera photo with wild editing it is! Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS over Tokyo! Comet is on the left about a 1/4 of the way across, sktyree is on the right

Michael Phelps is literally referred to as a freak of nature because of his disproportionate wingspan, double jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete, and he is rightly celebrated for being the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences are legally discriminated against and harassed to no end. This is not about “protecting women in sports” - this is about protecting a very specific idea of what a woman is.
