@irentdumpsters Even if someone took our exact business model and opened in the same tiny town I’m in.. I’d help their phone ring. I’d help them find salvage jobs and cleanouts because more brings more.

@irentdumpsters Here’s why that doesn’t work for everyone- I run a thrift store and salvage company. My parents and I work here. We have 2 5,000 square foot buildings. We sell stuff cheap and in high volume. I don’t have competition. All the other stores in our area help each other out.

Nothing gets me more triggered than when a business owner tells me: “There’s enough to go around in our area—we can all get a piece.” If you don’t want to destroy your competition, why the hell did you go into business for yourself in the first place? If you don’t want to be the best, you’re wasting your time.

Tell me you don’t understand the market, the economy, finance or supply/ demand fundamentals without telling me you don’t understand these things. $5 per SF per year tax proposed on commercial spaces that are vacant for longer than six months. Let that sink in….instead of addressing the root causes of vacancy we’re going to penalize landlords for not having a tenant. Of all the misguided legislation we’ve seen, this must be near the top of the list. Vacancy is a symptom, not a choice. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m a little sad about nanowrimo officially shutting down, but unsurprised. I participated off and on for 20 yrs, made friends through it that I still have It’s part of why I can write so fast and part of my journey as an author. But I can take what I learned and let it rest

Every time I talk to a HVAC/Plumber I always ask this one question: "Do you guys scrap your copper?" The ones who say yes I know have been in the industry their whole lives. The ones who say no usually acquired the company and left white collar world. I used to make an extra $15,000 a year from scrap in dumpster space. It was one of my favorite parts of the business and one of the only things I miss lol.
