I don't know if it's still like this, but the Wikipedia page for Marx's labour theory of value used to say that according to Marx, the value of some commodity is accounted for by the amount of socially necessary labour that is required to produce it. it then went over the objection that the price of commodities clearly varies as a result of other factors. Then it followed up by saying that many Marxists say this confuses value for price, whereas Marx means something else entirely Okay, so what does he mean? According to the Wikipedia page, when he talked about a commodity's "value," he was actually talking about the amount of socially labour that was socially necessary to produce some commodity. ...So Marx's theory, according to this page, was that the amount of labour that was socially necessary to produce a commodity was the amount of labour that was socially necessary to produce that commodity?
