It's one thing to say that Hindu is an umbrella term for a wide variety of interconnected religions. I can understand including Buddhism, Jainism, and arguably even Sarna, Sanamahism, etc. under the umbrella. Yet if you include Naga animism under this umbrella, it just highlights why people say Hinduism is a meaningless term and Hindus have no commonalities at all aside from "non-Abrahamic from Indian subcontinent." Not even caste.

Likewise the 27 asterisms are distributed among the limbs of the Naksatra-puruṣa. It is an accepted principle in Sanskrit literature that description of heavenly beings should start with the feet and go upwards. The exact meaning of रूपसत्र is 'the sacrifice of the form'. The feet of the Stellar Deity are represented by the asterism Mūla; the shanks, by Rohiṇī; the knees, by Aśvinī; the thighs, by the two (Pūrva and Uttara) Āṣāḍhās; the privities, by the two (Pūrva and Uttara) Phalgunis; the hips, by Kṛttikā; the sides, by the two (Pūrva and Uttara) Bhādrapadas; the stomach, by Revatī; the breast, by Anurādhā; the back, by Dhaniṣṭhā; the arms, by Viśākhā; the hands, by Hasta; the fingers, by Punarvasu; the nails, by Āśleṣā; the neck, by Jyeṣṭhā; the ears, by Śravaṇa; the mouth, by Puṣya; the teeth, by Svāti; laughter, by Śatabhiṣaj; the nose, by Maghā; the eyes, by Mṛgaśiras; the forehead, by Citrā; the head, by Bharaṇī; and the hair, by Ārdrā. In this manner, the form of the Stellar Deity has to be constituted by those who wish for good physical features." Drawing on the Vedic concept of the Kālapuruṣa, the cosmic Person in whom the universe is not a mechanism but a living being, Varāhamihira distributes the twenty-seven nakṣatras, the lunar mansions of Indian astronomy, across the limbs of the Nakṣatra-Puruṣa, the Stellar Deity. The enumeration begins at the feet and ascends to the hair, inverting the convention of describing mortals from head downward. This encodes a theology of reverence: the feet of the divine are the site of prostration, the first point of contact between devotee and cosmos. Several correspondences reward attention. Mūla, meaning root, anchors the feet, a cosmological pun characteristic of Sanskrit's delight in layered meaning. Ārdrā, nakṣatra of the storm-god Rudra with his wild matted locks, naturally crowns the figure as its hair. Maghā, governed by the ancestral Pitṛs, presides over the nose, gateway of prāṇa, life-breath understood as inheritance from one's forebears. Most arresting of all, Śatabhiṣaj, the hundred physicians, governs not a facial feature but laughter itself, accorded its own ontological status as a force unto itself, like medicine. The chapter is not purely theoretical. Its closing injunction, that this form must be constituted by, those who wish for good physical features, confirms its ritual purpose: to know which nakṣatra governs which limb is to know under which asterism healing rites should be performed. The deeper vision is one of cosmic homology, the human body and the stellar canopy are structurally identical. The same primordial Person is simultaneously sky and body, and the Rūpasūtra offers the thread by which scattered stars are stitched back into a single, breathing form.
