In 2019, this frail man went to his booth as a polling agent. TMC goons dragged him to the street and beat him up mercilessly. He came home, folded his torn shirt, and kept it. 7 years later, he is proudly wearing that shirt again. THE BENGALI SPIRIT. x.com/Felumittirr/st…

Feminists are silent on BJP's Rekha Patra, Ratna Debnath and Kalita Maji winning. Selective feminism much?

It is extremely difficult to dislodge TMC from Bengal. Bengal had 27% Muslims in 2011, now it may be anywhere between 32–35%. They all vote for TMC. Imagine going into a fight where you need 51% to win, and 32–35% is already in your kitty. The remaining 65–68% are divided. Some vote for TMC for its socialist policies, some out of fear of repercussions if they don’t, some belong to a self-proclaimed intellectual class whose sole identity is hating BJP, and some older voters remain loyal to the communists, effectively splitting the vote. So, BJP winning Bengal would be nothing short of a miracle. I hope it happens.

IMPORTANT: a day before Bengal votes in second and final phase, ONLY 1,468 names are believed to have been added back to the electoral roll (source: Indian Express). Total 34 lakh applications are pending before 19 tribunals. As Justice Bagchi of SC said: ‘This election, we understand. More valuable right to remain on the rolls, we will examine.’ Well, your Lordship, in 99% of cases NO examination done yet and election is tomorrow. Repeat: a RIGHT TO VOTE your Honour is not a post-dated cheque. I guess only when a family member is denied the right, will we all wake up 🙏

The final phase of polling in West Bengal will conclude on 29 April. Phase 1 in West Bengal was already over on 23 April, and polling in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry wrapped up even earlier. Yet counting is scheduled only on 4 May. Why this five-day gap? Two days is more than enough for sealed EVMs to reach strongrooms and for counting arrangements to be finalised. Counting on 1 May would have served every logistical purpose. An unexplained delay till 4 May does not inspire confidence — it manufactures suspicion, and hands political parties a ready-made grievance about EVMs being tampered with post-poll. The ECI must explain, or advance the date.
