@ruka_mikami @XPJHX1 Luka had these stretches before but main stream media never glazed him this hard. Some calls were made but at least he is getting some recognition and he well deserved.

I think the under looked part of efficiency is efficiency of teammates shots. Luka takes and makes tough shots but creates the best quality looks for his teammates. The gap between eFG% on passes by Luka(61.1%) & SGA (57.4%) is bigger than the gap in their shooting efficiency.
Andy Bailey@AndrewDBailey

If Luka Dončić keeps up his level of play from the last couple weeks over the rest of the season, and the Lakers finish in the mid-50s, his MVP argument is going to be strong. There's a significant efficiency gap between him and SGA, but I think he can make up for it with the volume of his playmaking.

Tonight was Luka’s first shot to tie or take the lead in the final 5 seconds of 4th/OT since December of 2022 when, believe it or not, he intentionally missed a free throw and made a shot to force OT. Just like AR tonight Luka had 60/21/10 on 21/31 fg, 74% ts

@frankmikesmith It’s a grown men game. It would have been soft as hell if they called this a push off.

Luka Doncic game winner is one of the clearest push offs you’ll ever see. Broadcast showed 4 different angles and didn’t mention it once

It’s easier to be consistent when you are surrounded by quality players in a system that matches your play style. Luka, on the other hand, has been carrying the offense, and still producing elite numbers regardless of the roster around him. Roster advantage has to be mentioned when comparing them. Lakers were projected to win around 48 games. Luka is over delivering at the same time under appreciated.

So here would be my pushback. The two guys we compare him most to are Shai and Jokic. (I’d also argue, to your point, that those are the only two guys who get “put above him”) I agree that Luka gets criticism for a lot of things that Jokic gets away with (and I use that broadly because I’ve called Jokic out for his poor play at times this year). But Jokic is a champion. He’s literally hoisted the trophy, and he’s now in his early 30s, where most stars start to take more regular season time off. Also, no one is saying Jokic should be MVP this season for the same reasons Luka is not MVP. Shai is actually a better comp because they’re a similar age. Shai has a level of consistency in his intensity night to night, and particularly his focus on limiting or addressing his flaws that Luka doesn’t have. To me that’s the standard. Consistent intensity night to night. Imagine 26 year old LeBron James having as many nights as Luka has had where he comes out flat over the course of 82. Where he’s settling for super tough shots and complaining at the refs and just not playing very hard. Another way to put it is Luka’s floor is just crazy low compared to a lot of the guys who have gotten MVPs or “best player in the world” recognition. I think as soon as Luka adopts that level of night to night seriousness he will win MVP, and he’ll get that recognition. I’m okay with that being the standard.

I would argue Luka actually gets held to a higher standard than A LOT of players who get compared or put above him. Which is why a lot of his supporters get annoyed. His flaws are scrutinized in ways most other stars aren’t while his genius is taken for granted.
Jason Timpf@_JasonLT

The idea that Luka has been snubbed for MVP because of media bias is not based in reality. One of the biggest things I’ve noticed with Luka stans in particular is that they want Luka to be regarded as the best player in the world without him meeting the enormous standard that comes with that recognition.

@drenchmansports @CosbyOutOnBail Even Rob knows they don’t have a real shot at the championship this season. That’s why he didn’t trade any of their picks for a win-now move. The only way the Lakers win the chip is if Luka and Reaves go supernova in the playoffs

I think we need to have a real conversation about Luka Dončić and his shot selection. He makes some incredible shots… but sometimes the timing of them kills the possession. When the Los Angeles Lakers actually run the offense and use Luka off the ball, the team looks completely different. ***Film breakdown.
