Does anyone have experience with using a Mac Studio remote while traveling? I just wanna bring my Air but with the power of something running locally. AI is telling me this is a good idea, but it's been wrong before about my great ideas.

@wesoudshoorn @conductor_build “Wrong” in the sense that when running large models locally, the Studio doesn’t outperform the Mini, since more RAM but not significantly more GPU doesn’t improve performance. So very dependent on what you want to do with it. Very doubtful you use the 64GB on your machine :)

@roy What's wrong with overkill 😅? I'm running a lot of stuff and stresstesting my MBP on the daily (M1 Max 64GB). I just wanna buy a beast of a machine. My goal would be to remote desktop and keep using @conductor_build otherwise I'd likely just run Claude on a VPS.

@wesoudshoorn And a Studio is probably overkill. For many tasks, such as running large models, you may be better off with a Mini (or even two at a lower price).

@wesoudshoorn Oh, and use tmux sessions to Claude can keep going after you disconnect. Throw these two tweets in Claude and they can make you a manual 😅

It seems Claude stopped reporting model usage at claude.ai/settings/usage. Did it end up elsewhere, or is it gone entirely?

@wesoudshoorn @shadcn Rails results seem okay, but I have to be much more aware of prompting. Next.js has indeed been great. "Unfortunately," this CRUD app is better served by Rails due to the amount of server-side stuff.

@roy I tried a project in Rails and got some ugly stuff out. With Next.js it's been smooth sailing. Especially if you tell it to use @shadcn components (or similar), you can get great looking results quickly.

Is it me, or is Claude Code much faster and more accurate (one-shot) when building an app in Next.js vs Rails?

@wesoudshoorn I have a ton of those, but not (yet) here. Even have a 1960s PTT pay phone on the wall 😅

@garmdotcom Yeah, that's my assumption, too.

@roy Claude once told me it prefers Rails, and then when I asked it to build something it default to Next.js anyway I expect because there's so much more Next.js training data it knows how to navigate building in it much better.

@riebnik That's what it says, and then proceeds to recommend Rails for a mostly CRUD app (which makes sense, but is slow to build by Claude).

@roy I would be surprised if not. While I have no reliable data to cite, I assume React >>> Rails in adoption, and hence in the training data.
