I turned 35 today. I also became a first-time father last month. Life has given me a lot in these 35 years. Honestly, I started from nothing. So I have nothing to lose. Everything in life is a bonus to me. Statistically, from where I came from, I had very little chance of making it this far. Yet here I am, feeling lucky, thanks to the universe. I wonder sometimes how unpredictably tough it all was, and yet how wonderfully it all turned out. I don't know what all lies ahead, and yet I am super optimistic. I still haven't figured out the answers to so many questions. But I have figured out what matters most to me. My family matters to me. The bonds we create as we move through life matter to me. The ability to freely do what I feel like doing matters to me. Ultimately, how anyone chooses to live is entirely up to them. Freedom is the ultimate luxury. A quick recap of how the first 35 went: 0-5: Just out of a remote village. Learnt to live at the absolute bottom with minimal resources, and apparently it wasn't that bad.
5-10: Early schooling, Hindi medium. Started learning A, B, C, D in 4th standard. Yeah, that's how far behind I was.
10-15: Learnt how to learn. Closed the gap fast, studied hard through school, was an introvert. Still had no clue about anything, zero exposure.
15-20: Learnt to work hard and compete in an even more intense environment, including IIT-JEE. Studied my ass off, dead serious about everything, because I knew that was the only way out of the cocoon.
20-25: Learnt to be street smart. Wider exposure at IITB among the best of the best, didn't focus much on grades or placements.
25-30: Learnt to build. Just one year at Sony before I jumped into building something of my own, with no idea how hard the road ahead would be.
30-35: Learnt to think big. Scaling business through some of the hardest challenges in a tough category, and learning that anything is possible if I put my heart and mind to it. And then last month, my son was born. Holding him for the first time reshuffled my priorities in a way no other milestone ever has. So today, I've been reflecting on how I want to spend the next 5 years. The next 5 years are about breaking any artificial constraints I've built around myself over these years, and continuing to challenge and evolve myself. Doing things well outside my comfort zone, taking bigger risks, thinking even bigger, and Failing, thinking big again, and having the maturity to know that all of this is just a game. None of this matters that much anyway. Because what matters in the end is family, the memories we create, and the experiences we live along the way. I'll try not to be as serious as I was for the first 35 years. Trying to take bigger goals and yet take things a little more lightly this time. I couldn't be more thankful. To God. To my parents, who gave me everything from nothing. To my wife, my family, friends, and every well-wisher along the way. Nothing, just gratitude.🙏
