🚨Liberty was first found to have violated this same law 14 years ago, for incidents that occurred 19 years ago. LU "was specifically advised to address these deficiencies and the conditions and weaknesses that permitted them to occur." They didn't.

This is not the first time Liberty University was found in violation of the Clery Act, that was in 2010. Ongoing issues from that finding were one reason this one was so exhaustive.

Notably, this is an extremely rare occurrence of Liberty formally apologizing for something, and an even rarer implication that Falwell wants to apologize -- though LU says that on his behalf, and specifies that Falwell himself won't comment.

🚨@LibertyU has reached an agreement with Jerry Falwell Jr "settling all outstanding disputes on both legal and personal matters." This lifts the (rarely enforced) ban on Falwell from campus, and LU will now pay him "retirement and severance." liberty.edu/news/press_rel…

LU is making positive changes to fix the problem now. That's good. But let's be honest about how this happened. Those who have been harmed deserve honestly and apology from LU leadership, not more self-righteous spin.

After pressure from @R_Denhollander and LU students in 2021, LU announced an investigation (the results of which still aren’t public) and absurdly referred to 2021 as a “banner year.” Federal investigators would show up on campus one month later. liberty.edu/news/2021/11/0…

A group of students held signs at yesterday’s @LibertyFootball game after a Department of Education report revealed LU failing to follow campus safety laws and lying about its crime statistics. Protesting can be a hard thing to do at Liberty. We’re proud of these kids.
