The right to special education doesn’t stop even if you are arrested. Students incarcerated at the DC Jail who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) have the right to attend high school at the jail until the end of the school year in which they turn 22. #knowyourrights

SJP is thinking of our incarcerated clients this Thanksgiving who will go without their families, their traditions, and most importantly, their freedom this holiday. SJP gives thanks to all of our clients and everything they have taught us. Happy Thanksgiving.

Students with IEPs are entitled to a free, appropriate, public education (FAPE). In correctional facilities housing young people entitled to these services under the federal law, IDEA, these students don’t receive what they deserve. Learn more: sjpdc.org.

Educating students with disabilities who are incarcerated must be a priority. Federal law, including guidance from the US Department of Education, protects the rights of these students. SJP is working hard to advance the rights of these students. #educationjustice

Three of SJP's attorneys were recently accepted to the Family Court's Education Attorney Panel! This is exciting news as we fight for the educational rights of 17-year-olds who have cases pending in juvenile court. We look forward to serving our future clients.
