Contrarian take on this Google quantum paper: long term this might be the best thing thats happened to crypto infrastructure in years.
Like the details are scary right, 20x more efficient attack on secp256k1, breaking ECDSA keys within minutes, and Google so concerned they published a ZK proof instead of the actual circuit. This is serious.
The thing is, some chains have been coasting on cryptography because quantum was always "far away" and nobody wanted to spend on real cryptographic research. Well 2029 isnt far away, and ALL chains need a plan.
Crypto needed this to be honest.

If you've heard of #Bittensor and $TAO but still don't fully get it, i just sat down with one of the leading voices in the ecosystem @JesusMartinez Here's what I learned: 1. centralized #AI is already failing. OpenAI raised $110 billion. the entire crypto industry has raised $90 billion since 2022. and yet a $3 billion coin just did something @OpenAI couldn't 2. they trained a 72 billion parameter AI model. decentralized. no data centre. just miners all over the world competing for rewards. Anthropic's CEO mentioned it twice. people thought it was impossible 3. open source always wins. AOL lost. Linux now runs 99% of the world's computers. Bitcoin beat the banks. Bittensor is doing the same thing for AI 4. $TAO is the S&P 500 for AI. if any subnet moons, $TAO benefits directly because $TAO sits in the liquidity pool opposite every single subnet token 5. only 20% of $TAO is staked in subnets right now. 80% of a $4 billion coin hasn't moved yet 6. $TAO had its first halving in December 2025. in Bitcoin terms, we're roughly at 2013 7. the conservative price target from a fund manager with millions in $TAO: $3,000 by end of year. current price is nowhere near that 8. @TargonCompute is the only encrypted decentralized compute provider on the planet. co-authored a paper with Intel. seeing triple digit week-over-week growth 9. blockchain was built before its ideal user existed. that user is AI. agents need a trust layer, a settlement layer, and a money layer. blockchain is all three 10. this is a $3 billion coin in a $4 trillion industry. we are so early it's almost uncomfortable I asked every question i had. Saw some people panicking or asking about quantum computing's impact on crypto.
At a high level, all crypto has to do is to upgrade to Quantum-Resistant (Post-Quantum) Algorithms. So, no need to panic. 😂
In practice, there are some execution considerations. It's hard to organize upgrades in a decentralized world. There will likely be many debates on which algorithm(s) to use, resulting in some forks.
And some dead project may not upgrade at all. Might be a good to cleanse out those projects anyway.
New code may introduce other bugs or security issues in the short term.
People who self custody will have to migrate their coins to new wallets.
This brings to the question of Satoshi's bitcoins. If those coins move, then it means he/she is still around, which is interesting to know. If they don't move (in a certain period of time), it might be better to lock (or effectively burn) those addresses so that they don't go to the first hacker who cracks it. There is also the difficulty of identifying all his addresses, and not confuse with some old hodlers. Anyway, it's a different topic for later.
Fundamentally:
It's always easier to encrypt than decrypt.
More computing power is always good.
Crypto will stay, post quantum.
