One time I met Jeff Kaplan at the Riot Games HQ in LA and when I asked to get a photo with him, it turned into a group photo instead. 🥲

Hello - Our general guidance is that if you require the ability to programmatically @mention and quote users at scale, to explore our API Enterprise plans which do not have these same recent restrictions.
With that said, this is a recent change and we're open to feedback from the developer community.
Please DM me the details of your use-case requiring this functionality and I'll have the team review it and see if we can make any exceptions.

@taycaldwell The @ handle announcement doesn’t fully explain new, sudden challenges or what to plan from here for those who post & just lost work. To us it seems losing @ handles may push legitimate users away- we use @s to credit/thank orgs sharing great green building content.

While we want to encourage people to build their businesses on X, undisclosed promotions hurt the integrity of the product and lead people to distrust the content they read on X.

i'm 99% sure the migration to pay-per-request for the X API breaks applications @nikitabier @Support my billing cycle switched over at exactly 7pm et/midnight utc time and since then all requests to v2 endpoints for retrieving user posts are failing claiming that my app is no longer "attached to a project" (more details below)

To help address automated reply spam, programmatic replies via POST /2/tweets are now restricted for X API.
You can only reply if the original author @ mentions you or quotes your post. Non-replies will remain unchanged.
Applies to Free, Basic, Pro, Pay-Per-Use. Note: Enterprise & Public Utility apps are not impacted.
