As soon as news broke of the mask ban parents from this area emailed me pleading for help to advocate for clean air in schools. They are (rightfully) scared & angry. I am too! I spent part of yesterday crafting emails they can use to donate a portable air cleaner.

It's official: Mask ban in Nassau County, New York passes along party lines, 12-0 (7 abstentions). It makes wearing a mask a misdemeanor (with unclear health and religious exceptions) and gives police the power to fine people wearing a mask $1,000 and sentence them to jail time.

MASK BAN IN NEW YORK—@GovKathyHochul proposed a new mask ban in NY. She specifically cited how the pandemic repealed the old ban, but now she wants to restore the old pre-pandemic ban. But reading further—it seems to suggest she wants a ban on “face coverings that don’t serve a purpose”. Does that mean it will have a STRONG MEDICAL EXEMPTION? Or would it be a half-assed partial health exemption like NC republicans did? VERY UNCLEAR.

Stop this madness now!
Sadly, affluent parents will soon start pulling their children from public schools for better private facilities, remote Ed or homeschooling.
This only benefits people like Betsy DeVos (former Secretary of Education) and her rich friends who will continue to educate their children free of airborne virus in purified environments, while the rest of our children suffer in various states of disease from repeated infections.

I just followed up w/ @CAPublicHealth by 📞. They got a lot of complaints on this, which were fwded to the ID dept. I was assured they'll reply promptly. If you haven't yet, write & call them & @OSHA_DOL @CAgovernor to share why + asymptomatic people shouldn't be at school/ work.

They're also blocking you from getting Novavax if you had mRNA, which isn't supported by the science.

@gtconway3d Had to go to five pharmacies for tests last Monday - everywhere sold out in LA. And this was at $10 a pop so $100 for the five of us, 2 tests each, and yeh we had +. Full blown surge and who can afford the tests?
