Nobody tells beginners this about cybersecurity: 90% of the job isn't hacking. It's reading logs, understanding systems, and noticing when something's slightly off. The movies lied. The real skill is attention to detail.

On this social media journey of mine, I currently have 144 followers. I’ve spoken with many people and seen many projects. Seeing people’s work—and the fascinating projects they’ve created—is such an exciting experience for me! As all this is happening, I’m also eager to share my own work and look forward to the opportunity to connect with even more people. #buildinpublic

Some news: I'm starting an internship building a Java application that moves real business data into a database using SQL. OOP and SQL, working with real-world data — on an actual project. Going to document what I learn along the way.

@HearthandCode @X Ha, appreciate that 😄 And honestly that instinct — wanting your data to actually help people — is the right kind of optimism. The security part just makes that generosity sustainable, so you're giving on your terms instead of having it taken. Best of both worlds 🔐

And a wonderful philosophy to have. To be honest, I'm a bit haphazard at times with my data. I don't really concern myself with privacy as much as I should. But I want my data to help improve the lives of others, if what I do with my data can help others and be shared, then I don't mind it being used. That focus on building both the securing of what you build as well as shipping a good product is critical for success. I might need to take a lesson or two from you, lol.

@HearthandCode @X Also — funny thing, I came into security from the building side. Java + backend first, then realized I cared just as much about securing what I build as shipping it. Now I can't separate the two 👀

Really appreciate that 🙏 And that's a great instinct — 'transparent but secure' is one of the hardest balances to get right, especially early. Happy to be a sounding board on the security side as you build out. No substack yet — for now I share the journey on here (@thebitstack). But you've got me thinking I should start writing the longer stuff down. Definitely staying connected 👋

@jingconan @X Let's connect 👋 Turning scattered decisions into reusable workflows is a real pain point — curious how you handle keeping that context up to date as a founder's strategy shifts.

This resonates — I hate self-promo too, but talking about what you're actually building feels different. I'm learning cybersecurity and backend in public right now, sharing the wins and the 2am stuck-on-a-box moments. The transparency is the whole point. Going to check out your substack — always down to follow someone documenting the real process 👋

Hey, what's up? Been on a networking drive today and love seeing this "Let's connect posts". I hate self-promoing, but I love talking about what I'm working on because it is such a personal passion of mine. I'm trying the build in public approach, I want to make as much of what I build as transparent and open as possible. I have a substack where I detail the ups and downs of how I build and use AI, and I love engaging on here. Anyways, always down to connect and share ideas and converse. Look forward to keeping in touch!

Hot take: most people learning cybersecurity are studying the wrong things first. They jump into fancy tools and certs. But the people who actually get good? They master the boring fundamentals first — Linux, networking, how data actually moves. Agree or disagree? 👇
