In exchange, Oracle promises 6,000+ high-paying jobs and a $1.2B riverfront campus on the Cumberland. 2024: Oracle moves its "world headquarters" designation from Austin to Nashville. Big ceremony. Bigger promises. January 2026: Fortune reports Oracle's net Nashville headcount gain since the deal is 7 employees. Seven. March 31, 2026: Oracle lays off an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 workers globally. Nashville workers confirm cuts to the Nashville Business Journal. Many had just moved to town, locked into year-long leases, to work at a campus that doesn't exist yet. Today: Oracle quietly files for a zoning change on the East Bank site. In an email to Metro Council last week, they insist they're still "working to establish" the HQ. Tennessee State Rep. Aftyn Behn, on the record to Axios: "My most generous assumption is that Oracle is scamming the state of Tennessee and Nashville, using our tax dollars to prop up its defunct business model."
