I’ve been critical of SCMS as an institution re: the conference, obviously.
I was unprepared for the personal rage and depth of betrayal as I see maskless selfies of my mentors, colleagues, and those I considered equality advocates.
Some I truly thought were my friends.
Sifting through “it was so great to hug/drink together/share meals” SCMS tweets and… well. I shouldn’t be surprised by the enthusiastic toxic denial, but I’m still disappointed.
Apparently socializing at a conference is intoxicating enough to gleefully harm and exclude others.
If you are involved in any way with SCMS, please read this thread.
This is my final plea/call to action before this year’s conference.
Long story short: we must demand a hybrid model — at bare minimum — to meet many of the ideological frameworks we claim to practice.
6) The fact that Cerberus or BQ.1.1 prevalence is gaining in Quebec — likely fueling the observed rise in #coronavirus concentrations in the wastewater — means that #COVID hospitalizations will probably remain high in the coming days.
1) Breaking: Concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 are rebounding sharply in Montreal, Laval, Gatineau and other regions of Quebec in a sign that the 8th wave has not yet peaked in the province.
What do you think is important in an ending - of a novel, story, film or TV show? Just thinking about where endings can leave us and curious to read your thoughts.
@Aaron_Derfel@badassbkblog Wow. Fwiw some folks like myself took their under 5s to the states to get vaxxed sooner, but certainly it wouldn’t change the number much 😔
1) Cuba — an island nation of more than 11.4 million people — last declared a #COVID death on Aug. 21. And before that date, Cuban authorities had not reported a single COVID fatality in more than two months. What’s the secret to Cuba’s success in managing the #pandemic?
Many of my @Yelp reviews focus on #COVID19 protocols, mask adherence, quality of curbside pickup, air quality, and so on.
I consider this an easy way to help reality-aware people (especially the immunocompromised) avoid dangerous spaces.
Here’s someone’s comment on my efforts.
@Sarah_Prager I’m not sure we’re at the amusement park phase yet, but I’ll keep it in mind for future trips (we’re only 3 hours from there!). Thanks again, really appreciate this 💕
@virtualcasey So happy to hear that! Good luck! It was a lovely spot and 10 mins from Storyland which you should go to too (we did)! North Conway and Conway are gorgeous vacation spots with lots for kids outdoors.
@virtualcasey@MamaWeasleyy Just vaxed my 2yo today in North Conway, NH. I came from MA and they were OK with another state, maybe another country would be too but no idea. They are offering both brands! Saw babies there, assuming 6mo+? Masks required site. vaccine.mainehealth.org
