It began with an idea: what could we use for randomness that was like our Lava Lamp wall in San Francisco but represented our team in Portugal? Waves seemed obvious. Some of us who were old enough remembered the 80s desk toy wave machines. What if we could get a bunch of them and put them on the wall in our Lisbon Office lobby? Easier said than done. Turns out they aren't being manufactured anymore. We scoured eBay and other sources but couldn't find enough in working order. Undaunted, we found an artist who could make them for us. They weren't ready for the official office opening, but when they finally went live today I have to say: they're awesome. Full story coming, but until then, pretty cool the waves in Portugal are now helping keep the Internet more secure.

Thank you for all the trust and support in one of the toughest time for blogging and challenging Cyclone / Depressions. We are one of the biggest weather blogging family in the world with 9 lakh followers in Facebook. It all looks like a dream looking back. It all started in 2014 when i shifted from Blogspot to Facebook. As a pluviophile, the bias of weather blogger and excitement will be always towards the rains. No where in the country there is so much importance given to weather like Tamil Nadu and in last 3 years, Tamil Nadu is bearing brunt force of extreme weather events in NE monsoon. To name a few 400/500 mm events. Mailam (Villupuram) 500 mm event in 2024 Pondy 500 mm event in 2024 Uthangarai (Krishnagiri) 500 mm event in 2024 Rameswaram 400 mm event in 2024 Kayalpattinam (Tuty) 900 mm event in 2023 Sirkazhi (Peacock) 400 mm event in 2022 It is very difficult to pick a 400-500 mm event in a particular place and there is always a probability of extreme events whenever a slow-moving systems move into our coastline. No one in this world can predict nature with exact with quantum and exact place as weather prediction are probability based. In our State we are too obsessed with the quantum and the red alerts and cyclone crossing area, rather than the impacts which it is going to bring. With your support i will continue to carry on what i loved to do for atleast few more years. In 2014 for almost a year lot of my FB post did not even get single like, still i carried on what i was doing and a purpose was found in the 2015 floods. I clarify that i dont do this to get limelight or to be in TV. I love what i do and it is not so easy to interpret charts here in our Basin. It is not easy even with whatever app at ur disposal. Over the past 10 years, the journey has taught a lot, i dont react to any other bloggers or IMD views. I dont take dig at others when the other bloggers or IMD forecast is off but i will stand by what is true by putting the facts (eg Fengal landfall crossing time). I understood it is for the public to decide who to follow or who not to follow. I dont post in haste seeing just one run of a weather model. I wait till i get clarity. Still lot more to learn, i sometime react to hate or sarcastic messages which i need to control. In the coming years there is going to be lot of extreme events. Hopefully, i can be there for you all to update in the coming years and create more memories with more systems, damal dumeels and Red Thakkalis. I was a nobody worthless guy before all this started, hence all the thanks and love for making me what i am today with a purpose for my life. With love urs PJ aka Tamil Nadu Weatherman

Quick Linux Tip 🐧 You can use the find command's -exec option to call an external program to perform a specific action on the returned files that match specific criteria. For example, deleting files, listing file perms, and so on. $ find ~/ -type f -exec ls -lah {} \; This is very useful when performing the same action on multiple files in different locations. The above command is an example of listing the permissions and other metadata of every file the find command finds. A breakdown of the -exec option: • exec ls - this tells find to execute the ls command on every filename that matches the search string. • -lah - displays all files, including hidden files, their permissions, and other file metadata, such as sizes, in a human-readable format. • {} - The “{}” placeholder represents each filename and must be the last item in the parameter list. • ; - To indicate the end of the parameter list, a semicolon ";" is used. It must be escaped with a backslash "\" otherwise the shell will interpret it. You can also use the + instead of the ; to indicate the end of the parameter list. There should be a space between the + and the curly braces "{}". You can execute multiple commands using -exec in find. For example, this looks up word counts in text files and their disk usage in one invocation: $ find . -name "*.txt" -exec wc {} \; -exec du -sh {} \; That's it for today's tip! Follow us for more byte-sized Linux tips and be a better-informed Linux user🐧

How was social engineering potentially used in the open source security vulnerability? And more Let's break down the open source security vulnerability (in xz/liblzma) that caused massive upstream supply chain risk & could have allowed the attacker the ability to compromise machines, steal data, attack other machines, destroy info, etc.
