This old photo of my father and I is my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. #HappyFathersDay I played football for 16 years and my father was at every single game cheering me on. Before every game I would look for my Dad and go up to him before kickoff and give him a big hug, kiss, and tell him I love him. No matter what city or state I was playing in, he ALWAYS made it to my game. In 1997 he almost missed ONE... That year my father was in a very bad accident at work and have to have emergency surgery. There were severe complications and he had to stay in the hospital all week. Doctors said there was no chance he would make my game. I remember still looking for him before the game even tho I knew he wasn’t gonna be there. In the middle of warm ups tears began to run down my face. I tried to hold them back but I couldn’t. Sadness overcame me. This was the first time in my life I wasn’t going to play in front of my father. My coaches and entire team knew I was hurting and how much my father meant to me as they saw my tears continue in pregame. As we huddled up about 5 minutes before kickoff I saw an ambulance pull up next to field. A man jumped out went around back and swung open the doors. He started to roll a man out and as soon as I saw that red hoodie I knew it was my Dad. I immediately ran full speed faster than ever ran before across the entire field to him. Words can’t describe the feeling of happiness that overcame me. Tears of sadness became tears of love and joy. The medic put him in a wheel chair rolled him to my sideline. I asked him “How”, “why” and “what about the doctors?”. He smiled and told me he wasn’t missing my game no matter what even if he had to wheel himself all the way from the hospital. We won and I had one of my best games of my career. I remember the field being packed that day but to me there was only 1 man in the crowd. After every play I would look up to make sure he was there because I still couldn’t believe he made it for me. We had never taken a photo after a game before until this one, and til this day, I love this photo so much but not nearly as much I love this man, my hero, my father.
