Each character in Sonic is meant to have flat personality traits that compliment each other. Sonic is cool, Tails is scared, Knuckles is mad and Amy is lovely. Amy is the lovey-dovey character whos entire philosophy is fueled by unconditional love and kindness for everyone, not just Sonic. Sonic is just the one that she loves most. I have mixed feelings about this depiction of Amy, because I do think a slightly more fleshed-out Amy is infinitely more interesting but its also a symptom of a deeper problem with the modern day characterizations of the cast as a whole.
