This smiley face is bc she has no idea how unsafe hospital is for a child like her, with a quiet voice and no ability to call for help. That’s why so many #parentcarers and #carers sit by hospital beds exhausted 🙄

If we are to truly move towards neurodivergent-affirming care, we need to ditch medical model frameworks, tools & support. We need new tools. There are fortunately many to choose from, all that have a common theme. Can you guess what it might be? @RCSLTLearn #NATPmentalhealth 💜

Found this on Reddit. This is how I know it's autism and not depression or anxiety. The healthier I am, the more autistic I act because I know how to regulate my own body.

@DanielJHarrisUK My daughter too. Two years out of school now. She’s 9 with a severe learning disability. My husband gave up work to care for her. I had to fight a tribunal case from my hospital bed whilst recovering from cancer surgery

@jo3grace You’re a hero! Thanks for treating children like my daughter with so much respect and love, and for making them seem and heard. Your videos make me quite emotional as so few people try to understand her. Your research is vital

both my husband and my youngest son were ill at home. Do I sound snooty, did I say it wrong, do I look past it...623 people. Cold neck syndrome. Better get closer to the fire. #phdlife youtu.be/JVVfka8WFCU?si… 2/2

I stand in front if big groups of people all the time, online and in person. But I also sit worrying what 623 people thought of my tired looking self. I filmed in my Dad's office because at the time 1/2

Is executive functioning understood enough in schools do we think? 🤔 the number of times I’m contacted by parents because schools have sanctioned because of a child’s lack of executive functioning skills is alarming tbh 🫤 #SEND #autism #ADHD #inclusion #Neurodiversity #equity

‘Non-verbal’ implies lack of speech. It both demands spoken language and put the onus on the child, as opposed to their environment. All children communicate. It is up to us to find out how.

I have no idea what the game is, but my daughter is certainly not ‘non-verbal’. This shows that she is a) selectively speaking. She chooses when to speak and b) thrives in a quiet, low demand environment. Simply, she is happy to speak when she is happy

A thread about the dangers of the term ‘non-verbal’ from a personal perspective. My daughter is classed as non-verbal most of the time. Her expressive language level is assessed as being 24 months (she’s 8). Here is an extract from listening to her playing alone in her room:
