Tonight was overwhelming in the best way. Not only was I officially sworn in as a Trustee for Alvin ISD, but I was also nominated and elected to serve as Vice President of the Board. As I shared tonight, this moment did not begin in the boardroom. It began in countless conversations—with students, parents, educators, and community members. I carry each of those voices with me, and I won’t forget the people who poured into me and trusted me to be their advocate. God saw fit to place me in this position, and I do not take that lightly. I am committed to advocating for every single individual in our district and ensuring that we stay galvanized and grounded in our purpose—every single day. To God be the glory.

April 26th marked National Dissertation Day, a day dedicated to motivating doctoral students to finish the journey. While I was enjoying some time in the sun yesterday, I missed the moment…but I won’t miss what’s ahead. Next Wednesday, I will complete the mission by defending my dissertation at Baylor University. This three-year journey is coming to a close. The Road to Dr. Roberson is nearing its final destination. Through every challenge, every late night, every moment of doubt, God has carried me. It’s the smallest mistakes… When I created my T-TESS account years ago, I forgot to capitalize the first letter in my last name. And every year since… it’s remained lowercase. I’ve tried to fix it—again and again—but it never seems to change. But during my certification renewal, I paused and reflected… We all make mistakes. We all fall short. And sometimes, we even unintentionally shrink ourselves. But let me ask you this— Did that mistake change my name? Did it change how it’s pronounced? Did it change what I’ve been called, or what I’ve been certified to do? The simple answer is: No. So don’t beat yourself up over a mistake or a moment where you fell short. That’s what critics are there to do. Your job? Pick yourself up. Stand firm. And as the Word reminds us—be an example for the believers. Carry out the assignment that has been placed on your life. I didn’t expect to find motivation while renewing an educator appraisal certification… but I did. Because one word stood out: Renewal. And that’s where we are right now. It’s renewal season, y’all. Pick yourself up. Keep going.

Today marks a historic milestone for Aldine ISD. We officially unveiled HEAL at Nimitz High School, transforming a former gym into a state-of-the-art mock hospital! This journey began in May 2023 with a vision and a hopeful meeting with Memorial Hermann Health System. We knew that to build a bridge to the healthcare industry, we had to be willing to tear down the old ways and build something unprecedented. Because of the unwavering support of our Board of Trustees, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the incredible team at Memorial Hermann, our students can now see their future while they are still in their present. HEAL isn’t just a classroom, it’s a community wellness hub where our students will gain clinical skills to serve our Aldine community. We aren’t just telling our students they can be healers; we’re giving them the tools to start healing today. This is the #AldineStory in action! More photos and videos coming soon!
