So yeah, this record literally everything I could’ve asked for from Olivia. Her and I are the same age so the way we grew up and matured since her debut is amazing to see because of that parallel.
Obviously her sound is more grown compared to when she was a teenager, but what really stuck with me was how her writing evolved, but it still has that Olivia Rodrigo signature all over it. Her lyrics aren’t the most complex, but she has such a great ability to convey her emotions in a way that automatically resonates with you. You never have to dig super deep to find meaning, which isn’t a bad thing at all… it shows that her words are intentional and she knows exactly what she wants to say and how she wants to say it.
I really did think she would lean more towards a pop-punk style record, but then I see her release a single called “The Cure” and work with THE Robert Smith. Olivia has always made her influences clear and you can her it in her music, but she never loses herself within those influences and always manages to make it her own. As a huge fan of The Cure, seeing this record kind of be an ode to that era of post-punk/rock made me so fucking happy.
To me, she is genuinely in a league of her own. A pop record of this caliber being released in 2026 is so important man. 3 INCREDIBLE albums by the age of 22… no one is doing it like her right now.
My favorite tracks are “u + me = <3” & “my way”
