Dear Europe, I know you feel outrage. I have talked to many of you on the phone. I know politicians and media on both sides of the Atlantic are furious. I attended a conference with mostly Europeans. The worry and frustration was palpable. I get it too. You are dependent on Middle East oil and aluminum and fertilizer and shipping and LNG. Dubai is a vital travel hub for you. Vital. But don’t worry. Trump will lose the midterms and Congress will flip and side with you. Or maybe not… I live in the bluest town in the bluest state, where protests are practically a seasonal sport. I drove over eight hours across New England this week past the usual corners where outrage normally lives. This time? Nothing. Left, right, center. I’m hearing almost no one talk about this war. MAGA doesn’t even care. Ask someone and you’ll get the expected talking points. But in coffee shops, kitchens, real life? Silence. Hard truth: most Americans just don’t care. And since the weather warmed, not a single keffiyeh in sight. So when Trump says you need to go protect the ships and airports that are vital to YOU, I think he means it. Because the vast majority of Americans don’t care. And it’s not that we want to see you spin into an energy and food shortage. It’s that even the most TDS-inflicted liberal American is getting tired of your BS. Hating Trump is one thing. Almost half of America is OK with that. But your anti-American vitriol and arrogance and weakness is exhausting. Nobody likes a needy person who is angry and thinks they are better than you. It’s literally the worst combination in a person. And you might not want to admit it, but you are needy. You need us to reopen Hormuz. You need our banks and our markets. You need a lot. “We will not participate in this war” is fine. Nobody is asking you to bomb civilians. What’s weak is you won’t surge defensive missiles and planes to protect European-owned ships and property. When exactly did defense make you a participant? Defense of innocent life and property isn’t a “war crime.” And you DO own the majority of ships getting attacked. Ships that you are unwilling to defend maybe because you outsource the labor to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Ukraine. You are the wealthy lords who abandoned the mansion but told the help to stick around and defend it. So you might want to send a few warships and missile defense units to protect YOUR property. Or at least leave them at anchor and send the innocent crews home. You want us to defend the Strait because we started this mess? That’s reasonable. Problem is the reaction from most of America to your demands is: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That was the plan all along, wasn't it ?@realDonaldTrump Op het einde van zijn eerste ambtstermijn, meer specifiek op 03.12.2019, verkondigde President Trump tijdens een toespraak voor NATO, in aanwezigheid van alle staatsleiders, dat de USA al vele, vele, jaren jaarlijks ongeveer 4% van haar GDP ( ofwel ongeveer 800 miljard dollar ) als bijdrage aan NATO betaalde terwijl de meeste andere NATO lidstaten ( met uitzondering van Turkije ) amper 1 - 1,2% van hun GDP bijdroegen, dat hij dit niet fair vond en dat, als de andere lidstaten hun bijdrage niet zouden optrekken naar minimum 2% van hun GDP - zoals voorzien in de statuten van NATO maar zij nooit hadden gedaan - hij overwoog om de USA uit NATO terug te trekken. Dat sloeg in als een bom. nato.int/en/news-and-ev… Zover is het echter niet gekomen. President Trump werd op de valreep niet herverkozen. De NATO lidstaten konden opgelucht ademhalen. De daaropvolgend jaren hebben zij zich, als vanouds, verder beperkt tot een bijdrage van 1 - 1,2%. Op 24.02.2022 starte President Putin de invasie in Donbas. Hoewel Oekraïne geen lid is van NATO noch van de EU heeft de USA, onder de auspiciën van Joe Biden, ongeveer 350 miljard dollar toegestoken in miltaire uitrusting en fondsen, waarvan Zelensky achteraf beweerde dat het een gift was en er geen sprake van was dat hij één cent zou terugbetalen. Op 20.01.2025 heeft President Trump zijn tweede mandaat aangevat. Een van zijn eerste statements was dat hij de USA zou terugtrekken uit NATO,de WHO e.a. NGO's. Grote paniek in de EU. Zonder de USA staan ze nergens. Gesprekken met kopstukken hebben ertoe geleid dat iedereen - ook B en NL - het hoofd gebogen hebben voor de eisen van President Trump en zich akkoord hebben verklaard om 5% van hun GDP te investeren in defensie ( waaronder een verhoogde bijdrage aan NATO ). Op 28.02.2026 zijn de USA en Israel, zonder mandaat van de VN,een oorlog begonnen tegen Iran die op haar beurt alle militaire faciliteiten van de USA in het Midden-Oosten bombardeert. Von Der Leyen, Kallas, Metsola en Costa evenals Macron en Merz hebben zich weliswaar aan de zijde van Trump geschaard en Iran veroordeeld, maar tussenkomen doen ze niet. Ze willen niet betrokken geraken in het conflict. Het is niet onze oorlog, klinkt het, wat President Trump ertoe brengt nogmaals te herhalen dat de USA er altijd wel is voor de andere NATO lidstaten maar zij omgekeerd niet. Wist President Trump dat de EU niet zou tussenkomen in het conflict met Iran ? Natuurlijk wel. Hij had enkel een reden nodig om de dure financiering van NATO te stoppen. Die reden heeft hij nu. Zonder de financiële bijdrage van de USA ligt NATO virtueel op haar gat. De andere lidstaten kunnen in geen geval de put overbruggen. Dat weten de Eurocraten uiteraard ook, reden waarom er vorig jaar plots sprake was van de investering van 100 miljard voor de oprichting van een eigen EU defensie, naast NATO. Hoe zal dit verder aflopen denkt u ?
