In honor of the United States Semiquincentennial (the fancy term for America’s 250th birthday), this is your periodic reminder that the only copy of the Declaration of Independence located west of the Mississippi is, somewhat bizarrely, tucked out of the way on the 7th floor of the downtown Dallas Main Public Library. For Texans it is easier to get to than the National Archives in DC, free to view, and as an added bonus there’s a copy of “the most important book in the English language”, Shakespeare’s First Folio (one of, appropriately enough, only 250 to survive), located in the adjacent viewing room.

@Louis_LAmour Greetings from La Quinta! We hear the mountains rumble just like he described!

Angelique, Beau and Kathy L'Amour visiting and exploring the realm of the Lonesome Gods near La Quinta, CA in 1968. This area, familiar to Kathy because her family owned a large property there, became the setting for one of Louis' greatest adventures.
A tale of a young boy left to die in the desert by a vengeful and resentful grandfather who survived and thrived among the Indians and outlaws of the desert only to become a rugged adventurer and an educated man.
There are no limits when you listen to the voices of the LONESOME GODS!

Seems like an appropriate time for a #TBT to #MX5Cup racing at Coronado! Yep, Mazda MX-5 Cup raced at Navel Base Coronado in 2012 and 2013. Maybe @NASCAR needs an experienced support series for their newest track?

📚 Poll Time!
How many Louis L'Amour books do you have on your shelves??
(Lets talk paperback and hardcover books for this poll and we'll move on to Audio Books later.)
Give us a number in the comments below!
(Photo courtesy of Louis L'Amour's "writer's shack," an exhibit at Frontier Village in Jamestown, North Dakota, that showcases his connection to the area. While he never wrote in this specific structure, it displays his books and some of his typewriters. The exhibit also includes a recording of an interview with L'Amour. The real inspiration for L'Amour's writing came from the ranch he owned outside Durango, Colorado.)

The last time #MX5Cup raced at @BarberMotorPark was 2019. The cars are a lot different now, but the racing is still the same.

@Louis_LAmour The mountains are still beautiful in La Quinta. Especially the sunrise on the Coral Mountains.

Louis L'Amour:
Lately, we've been much of our time on our place at La Quinta, near Palm Springs. I've been hiking in the mountains, found a lost oasis with four hundred palms in it where nobody had been for many, many years! And traced out a prehistoric Indian trail, made several thousand years before Christ. There are a number of them down there, most of them left by people of the Pinto Basin culture.
It is a high and lonely region where no one ever goes and where no one has apparently been for fifty years or more.
Kathy, who manages her families ranch there, and handles the selling of the fruits grown there, often gets opinions from someone not on the market but who knows the market. When she was selling the grapefruit and dates from the ranch at La Quinta she was dealing with Greek, Armenian and Italian fruit dealers, so she would get tips from one on what to do, and they got a great kick out of helping her out-wit their rivals and sometimes friends. It was rather fun, but it did take time.

@TheRealBookSpy @nelsondemille Loved his books. Loved his characters. Loved his storylines!
English

RIP, @nelsondemille. This one hurts a lot. We lost a true titan in the industry. Nelson was a sweet man, always eager to help other authors and gave so much of his time to lending advice and building up new writers. A legend. You will be so missed, my friend.
