This guy stayed with his fish all night on the river until he could get a hold of me and find a scale. All that time waiting in suspense, thinking he had a new state and world record...and it was just over half the necessary size. 62 pounds. Still a nice fish but well short.

Starting the day off strong! An angler just called, he thinks he has a Flathead Catfish that would break the Kansas State record and also the world record. There have been some big blues being caught from the Missouri River but I remain skeptical about this one. That's a big fish

I got to see my first melanistic shortnose gar at Milford Reservoir today. We were out doing research on blue catfish and channel catfish with @KState today when this rare looking gar surfaced. Seeing this along with leucistic and piebald blue catfish in the same day is special.

@Nicktalurus I get your frustration. I wouldn’t be happy either, but what can you do…

Imagine having a problem, identifying a creative solution for that problem, applying for and being awarded a 50/50 grant for that solution, and landing additional matching funds only for a new player to come in at the eleventh hour and say "no, we aren't doing that." 🙃 TGIF

@bencneely Here are a few other pictures. 65 sites done across the upper half of the reservoir. The next two days will be focused on the lower half. The goal is 130 sites across four days of sampling. Hopefully catch rates remain constant as we move down the reservoir.

Midpoint update. No hard numbers but we've handled around 1300ish fish yesterday and today. Looking like we're stabilizing around 12% with altered pigment. Two more days of fish collection and then computer time 😭

Leucistic Blue Catfish are cool. Leucistic Blue Catfish from Milford Reservoir, KS are the coolest. But how prevalent is this mutation? Do anglers care? Does pigmentation influence angler behavior? We don't know either. Ask me or @BrettMiller89 in a month or so.

@DirtyDog650 Any chance you collected lengths and weights on those? I’m working with some folks on developing Ws equations for Orangespotted Sunfish and Longear Sunfish.

Just a literal handful of gorgeous sunfish we caught yesterday.

Does fish-finding sonar impact anglers? Angler catch of Blue Catfish was not influenced by live-imaging sonar in this controlled experiment. However, there was evidence that the use of live-imaging sonar influenced angler perception and behavior @thekdwp bit.ly/3uu6dMH
