Most electric shock incidents occur when people touch damaged electric cords on appliances or extension cords, touch damaged cords with wet hand or push electric wires directly into the wall socket without putting a plug on it first.

Eskom completes repair work to major high voltage lines, bringing electricity back to Kouga Local Municipality customers in St Francis and surrounding areas
Eskom has completed repairing damages to Melkhout/St Francis Bay 66kV line which had damages due to veld fires that ravaged through the Kouga Local Municipality, also affecting Humansdorp and Sarah Baartman areas on 08 January 2026. The completion of the repairs restored electricity supply to municipal customers in St Francis, Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay.
Eskom will continue monitoring the situation as there are still fires in certain areas, making it impossible to reach the few remaining customers and network for assessment. Once these areas are declared safe for access, teams will go in to assess the extent of the damage and effect repairs. Customers are urged to take necessary precautions and stay safe.
Eskom would like to thank all affected customers for their patience and understanding displayed during the past few days.
To report supply issues, customers are encouraged to use Alfred the Chatbot by connecting to alfred.eskom.co.za/chatroom/, make use of USSD string by dialling *120*37566#” on any mobile phones alternatively, download the MyEskom Customer App, which is available on the Google Play Store for Android devices and iPhone App Store for iPhones. Multiple areas in the Western Cape without electricity supply due to veldfires
Eskom customers across the Western Cape are without electricity supply after veldfires damaged Eskom network infrastructure.
Areas still affected:
Cape Metropole – Eskom Recovery teams are conducting a site assessment on the Dunoon electrical network to determine the extent of the fire damage. Once assessments are complete, an estimated time of restoration will be communicated.
Cape Winelands District (Franschhoek, Wemmershoek and surrounding farms) – Eskom recovery teams started with repair work and managed to restore power to Kylemore and parts of Stellenbosch.
Overberg Region – Eskom repair teams are on site with repair work to restore supply. The estimated restoration time has been extended to due to challenges the teams experienced in the mountainous terrain. Araes impacted include: Arniston; Bredasdorp; Buffeljasrivier; Heidelberg; Struisbaai; and Suurbrak.
Eskom apologises for any inconvenience and thanks its customers for their patience.
Customers are encouraged to download the MyEskom Customer App, which is available on the iStore and Google Play Store or use the Alfred Chatbot on the Eskom website to log a fault. Customers can also contact Eskom directly via WhatsApp on 08600 37566 to log a fault.
