In the best case scenario, Trump struck a deal to reopen a Strait that was open before the pointless war he started, with the IRGC demonstrating its control over the Strait and potentially extracting fees plus sanctions relief. Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.

So he’ll stop bombing Iran in order to reopen the Strait of Hormuz… …which was open before he started bombing Iran. Got it.

Myroslav Chornomor… He was beaten by the Russians with truncheons on his knees and elbows. They took him to mock executions to break him psychologically. They forced him to draw five "civilian corpses" on a map, then tore up the paper and eat it. This is how the Russians extracted a "confession" from the Ukrainian marine. On July 4, 2024, he was in a "glass cell"—a cell one and a half steps wide on each side, in the basement of a Russian prison. At 4:15 PM, the judge read the sentence: life imprisonment. Myroslav was in a Russian prison where Russian terrorists and serial killers were held. In the cell next to his sat a serial killer and rapist, nicknamed "Krasnoyarsk Chikatil." Before the war, Myroslav Chornomor had no military training. He was a choreographer. He danced in a folklore group and performed abroad. In 2020, he went to defend Ukraine in #Donbass with the 36th Marine Infantry Brigade. He studied at the Ostroh Academy, specializing in National Security, and simultaneously attended the Academy of the Union Security Army (SBU). On February 24, 2022, he defended #Mariupol. His unit fought under massive Grad missile bombardment, retreated through the city, and eventually found itself surrounded at the Ilyich plant. Ammo was running low. Food was enough for a day or two. On April 12, 2022, about 50 fighters wrote a list of those who had decided to surrender. From that moment, his family no longer knew whether he was alive or dead. Myroslav calls the first year and a half of captivity a "black summer." He was held in the pre-trial detention center in the Russian city of Halych. He lost weight, going from 90 kg to 55 kg. Prisoners were beaten almost daily by the so-called "black special forces." The Russians beat two fighters from his company to death. Prisoners were only allowed to sit for 10 minutes a day. Their feet swelled so much that their socks and sandals stretched. Myroslav: "They took me out of the cell several times, telling me they would shoot me. I was even happy. I wanted it to end as soon as possible." The Russians accused him of killing civilians in Mariupol. There was no evidence. No bodies, no names, no DNA, no bullet casings. They gave him a Google Maps and told him: "Draw five corpses." When he drew something, he was forced to tear up the paper and eat it. After a two-month "trial," he received a life sentence. On February 5, 2026, Ukraine returned 157 prisoners of war. One of them was Myroslav Chornomor. When the bus crossed the border, he got off and began washing himself in the Ukrainian snow. Myroslav: "The air in Ukraine has a taste. Sweet and soft." His mother met him at the exchange. His father is defending Ukraine from the Russians, who are committing genocide against the Ukrainian people.
