True story! El Grande Granda is unique. Probably the only contemporary Grandmaster to climb as high without Chessbase. But the rumour says even he started to use it at some point. We are proud to have helped to four generations of players - be it a club level or top-notch professionals.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of the greatest natural talents the chess world has ever seen: @GMJulioGranda. From rural Peru, far from the traditional centers of chess culture, Julio rose to the world elite without coaches and with virtually no reliance on chess literature. No Informator, no ChessBase. His use of engines and databases was minimal, and only at a later stage of his career. That did not prevent him from holding Kasparov and Karpov to draws, or defeating players such as Topalov, Gelfand, Ivanchuk, and Morozevich. At his peak around 2000, Granda was firmly inside the world top 20, a remarkable achievement given his unconventional path.

Very happy about the performance of our biggest chess talent Christian Glöckler and even prouder of my dad, his home coach, who managed to rise another prodigy in Germany. German chess currently rocks! de.chessbase.com/post/ein-souve…

Another mind-blowing Wijk coming to an end. Congrats to Nodirbek - very impressive indeed! Javokhir kept establishing himself among the very top. Vincent managed to win so many games after a poor start - a quality which only few have. Jorden - probably the most exciting games throughout the event. So many ideas, such a freshness! Yagiz, great debut. At times it felt like young Kasparov. Many records to break for the boy with a clear World Champion potential and ambitions. Turkey to emerge as chess super power within couple of years. Matthias proved he is worthy Candidate and belongs to 2700+ club. Andy makes to the Masters next year. Excited to see another young star emerging. Just few months ago he needed a wild card to play the Grand Swiss - and now one can fairly expect him to clinch 2700 soon. Vasyl - no words. Genius. He did not qualify at the end of the day, but I'd say everyone would be happy to see him in the Masters next year. Bibissara - very formidable play. Kept her cool and performed at 2600+ in such a company. And of course, many other heroes at this unique event. That was exceptional. That was Wijk.
