Indianapolis has so far exceeded 70 degrees on 8 days this year, starting with 71°F on 2/18, and led by 79°F on 3/6 and 78°F on 3/20. This tally is the 2nd-greatest on record through March 20th, behind 2012's record 9 days. #INwx

I'm actually surprised at how well these dogs are straight from the camera. When I get to editing the real raws, I'm sure the quality/color balancing will be much better. Side note, not to toot my own horn, but I seriously can't believe how good I have become when photographing the mid-latitude Aurora. The personal growth over the last 5 years has been monumental, and I think I might actually be better at photographing the Aurora than tornadoes at this point. I always had the Aurora on my bucket list growing up, but now I've seen the Aurora about 100 times over the last 5 years from G0 to G5 storms or Kp2 to Kp9 periods. It's just really cool personal growth for me. I still have so much more room for growth on my photography, like prioritizing foregrounds/composition, and not to mention editing style to bring things, as true to life, as possible and I can't wait.

Calling it quits for the night and headed home now that the Aurora has weakened significantly (still present) and retreating northward. But man, that last substorm had a heck of an explosion phase! Very bright and full of motion. The time lapse on this should be pretty good later. The Aurora Borealis as seen from just north of Cheyenne, Wyoming from 1:32 a.m. until 1:39 a.m. tonight.

The Birth of a Violent Tornado The edges of this tube were so smooth—incredibly laminar. Also, the motion didn’t seem that strong. So it was shocking to learn later that a 185-mph wind gust had been measured by mobile radar. Rozel, Kansas - May 18, 2013

[7:30 PM] A cold front moving down through the region is sparking showers out ahead of it. These showers are what we'll be watching for potential thunderstorm development later this evening as they progress southeast.

Hollis hit 100F today for the first triple-digit on the Mesonet since August 28 of last year! Also tied for the 2nd-highest temp ever recorded on a March 20 in Oklahoma (102 was tops at several sites back in 1907). Summer's off and running! #okwx #okmesonet
