I do not care about making money on here. I post as the Spirit leads me. Sometimes I’m blessed with bangers, but I greet them and forget about them as they pass me by. I simply enjoy posting as a form of self-expression. I pay for the checkmark because I like to cultivate a broad audience, because I like to post about many of topics, because I’m interested in many topics, because it lets me write longposts if things are bad enough to merit that, and because it pays for itself anyway. I’ve been posting here for about ten years and it was, without exaggeration, somehow better under Parag and Vijaya than now. I was banned many times in those years, for as long as six months, for posting from the heart, but the average quality of the site and the ability of the algorithm to deliver it to me was far better. It’s not worth being allowed to say retard and faggot. Not worth reciting the many awful tragedy of the commons types of posts you mainly see on here now. Not worth going into the report circles and scams. You all know what it is and who’s doing it. Enough to say that X is horrible compared to what it was and doesn’t even feel competitive with IG/TikTok. I don’t post on any other social media, I only like Twitter. Ten years. And even I’m about ready to bail. The reason I’m a Twitter diehard is because I prefer text and images to video content and because I liked the way the algorithm showed me the posts of the people I followed. I followed them because I wanted to see their posts. Changing things to prefer video content even so far as to Jerry-rig vertical short video swiping (horrible algorithm included) takes away most of what I found rewarding in X. Changing things so I am by default shown a bunch of stuff that doesn’t interest me and worse, suppressing the things I’m interested in by allowing predatory third world scam rings to forcibly deboost them while simultaneously rewarding their AI slopscams, removes the other half of what I found rewarding. It’s a bit tragic because the people driving away long term prolific users in favor of short term self-sucking scam content bilking advertisers can’t be persuaded because they already know what they’re doing. But I’m already over it.

X has confirmed to us that the option to sort the ‘following’ feed has been removed PERMANENTLY and the timeline will now be algorithmically sorted by ‘popular’. This is a TERRIBLE move @elonmusk. People come to X for breaking news and need the option to sort by most recent. Personally, our timeline is now mostly populated by posts that are 16+ hours old.
