@Madisonkanna A lot of comments about how "just" writing code is not software engineering. I wonder if they are actively working with the newer models. They can system design and brainstorm better than most mid to senior level engineers. I agree with your sentiments 100%.

as a software engineer, i feel a real loss of identity right now. for a long time i defined myself in part by the act of writing code. the pride in a hard-earned solution was part of who i was. now i watch AI accomplish in seconds what took me hours. i find myself caught between relief and mourning, awe and anxiety. the craft that shaped me is suddenly eclipsed by a machine. who am i now?

I never named or shamed anyone in my original tweet, because I don’t believe in that. The truth is, I think this designer is probably talented. The problem is he’s running himself thin trying to be a “one-man agency.” But what he did today crossed the line: Publicly sharing client work that was paid for. Revealing the name of my stealth startup. Doing all this just to defend his ego. That’s not professionalism. That’s a lack of work ethic. If you’re considering working with him, think twice. Trust is the one thing a designer or agency can’t afford to lose.

I'm the "most popular design guy" Burak is talking about. If Burak won't share the evidence, I will. Burak subscribed to Designjoy. First request: brand identity for Snyp(ai). In the first 48 hours, Burak received back: - logo concept - website hero concept - abstract gradient frame with tagline Client: "We like the logo, but can we see different color options? Also, it's 'Snyp' not 'Synp.'" Next business day: "Sure, here's 4 new different palette options with corrected spelling." Client: "These aren't great at all. Can we see more stable color options?" Next business day: "Absolutely, here's a few more options along with monochromatic variations too." Client: "We'd like to cancel. Obviously we can use what you've done for us." The client didn't even cancel over the logo. They cancelled over color options. Don't believe everything you read on Twitter.

@elonmusk There's not enough human interaction for first-time buyers. There are a ton of questions that one has when switching to electric, and I think first-time buyers need more hand holding than what Tesla currently offers in both vehicle education as well as financing, etc.

Please reply to this post with any difficulties you may have had in trying to buy a Tesla. Our goal is for the purchase and delivery experience to be fast and simple, with accurate answers to your questions. The key test is that you would recommend it to a friend.

@blacksoulgem95 @soham_nayak04 @shadcn @Cloudflare @vercel @Firebase Right, like you said, ddos attacks only become a problem if the requests reach your backend. I believe Appcheck would prevent that, (that is the whole point of the service) just like cloudflare. Although you're right in that it doesn't get you fine-grained control.

If the malicious attack uses cache breaking patterns, you’re still paying for egress on firebase and vercel. Cloudflare, or any ddos protection service, helps you prevent egress costs on your source server. Once I had to setup a region block to Russia cuz a botnet was attacking us; we setup a mocked response to prevent the attack reaching our servers and they didn’t notice lol

@GoodGuyGuaranty 8.3k would be mortgage alone. With insurance and property tax, it'd be ~12k recurring per month.

Rough math: $1.5m asset, $250k down payment gift, and the kids chip in $50k. So $1.2m mortgage. At $8,300/month mortgage, qualification is somewhere around $350,000 HH income. This is two $175k salaries - not uncommon among college graduates in NYC. There is a market.

The obvious thing here is the $250k parental gift. With their 2022 mortgage, they pay $6,500/month. That would be closer to $8,300 now, but that'd be manageable for them with their income. The notable thing is that despite their high income, the gift was *needed* to buy.

@Timb03 Keep in mind, though, that this also means that you do not entertain enterprise onboarding anymore. At that price point, it's not viable to do security audits, custom contracts, purchase orders, etc. We made a conscious decision not to cater to that market.

@Timb03 Unlimited tier is a great differentiator (possibly the only) today for bootstrappers against funded companies who will never be able to offer that. From my personal experience, customers who spend 250+ a month are the sweet spot of the ideal customers for us.

Pallyy's pricing is becoming too expensive at scale. I'm thinking about adding a new unlimited plan for a set price (let's say $299/mo). It means I'll be reducing a bunch of larger users to this and decrease around $3K MRR. But, in the long term my thought is that it will attract more of these larger users as it's a capped price. Thoughts?

@TylerMKing @StartuptoLast @RickLindquist Maybe I'm mistaken, but got the sense that it was different enough that even Gusto isn't targeting >50 emp customers. I thnk Rick said that they prefer other vendors as they grow since Gusto doesn't meet their needs. They are still wildly successful in their market, though!

@valsopi @TylerMKing You are probably right regarding wp. And yes, the problem of overkill for simple html pages is just as bad, if not worse, today. I'd like to believe that most complex apps, though, have build processes that take care of tree shaking, etc, to get rid of unnecessary bloat.

@CrayonBytes @TylerMKing I want to think that the bad rep may have started from wp websites made with bloated themes and multiple jquery files. Also, some recent js libraries are larger in size than jquery.

A serious question: —Why do devs hate on jQuery so much? The syntax is readable and easy to learn/use. DOM manipulations are a breeze and plenty. I know a ton of things can be done with vanilla js / but something like... $('.foo').addClass('highlight'); ...is pretty simple, no? What are some other ways to do something similar without bundling components with HTML, etc. I am genuinely curious and don't want to start a war. And if this tweet is triggering a negative comment in you, please keep it to yourself if you have nothing substantial to add ✊
